EMP.

Not a problem at all. If anything it should wake the many out of their slumber. Nothing like a radical shift to get humans thinking.

I just recovered from a 2 week ordeal with the flu. Mucinex-DM is all I took. Worth its weight in gold. Its my #1 shtf medicine. I keep enough in stock to handle 2 illnes's.

 Quoting: tandym

$21.50 a box. it may be behind the pharmacy counter. I had to sign for the first box. But for the second they had it out on the shelves.

Ive recently tested Reynolds Wrap, non stick foil. It works very well. Can be used to line a pot or pan so u don't have to wash it. Thus saving water. Great on the grill for diced potatos etc.

Re: Are you prepared for a EMP? How would you survive?
What about the over 100 nuclear plants in the US and the buildings housing their spent fuel rod pools?? What would happen to these facilities after an EMP??
If you live within (50 miles?) of one of these, shouldn't you be researching this topic if you're preparing?
Why do few prepping articles, blogs, etc. never mention this at all?? I would really like to know what the threat is here and if there is a realistic way to prepare if meltdown is a real threat.
I have asked this question before and can't get an answer.
 Quoting: Fuddy-Duddy

This would cause a mass extinction event. No amount of prepping would work. You better hope we dont lose electricity for these or we are all done.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48395865

what this documentary here says is that when the nuclear plants detect the electrical grid failure they automatically shut down

btw this is a great video posted here long ago but it talks on the sudden disappearance of humans

when humans disappear

Though what I meant was -- how much do you need to handle two illnesses?

I have a box in my medical kit, but we have never used it, so I don't know 'how far' it goes?

Being a coastal dweller (yeah, not too smart eh?) I have my "Hurricane Kit". Extra fuel for the gas grill, generator, gasoline, wood for the fireplace and food stockpile. What worries me is the "Have Nots" will try to take from the "Haves". Though I'm a huge supporter of the 2nd amendment, I know I could never shoot anyone and don't own a firearm. Guess I would have to bug out...

It all depends on the illness. Looking at the latest box I purchased, it's good for 14 days. I think I took the product for 10 days. Make sure it says DM. DM is good for cough but it will keep your sinus's clear also. So no point in buying Mucinex-D.

Re: Are you prepared for a EMP? How would you survive?
Well, I have some solar power, enough to run my freezer and lights, radio etc.

I can't find any reliable information on how EMPS's affect solar panels though. I know that there is a diode that I may need to replace, maybe. And it may fry the charge controller. A project on the board for me is to make a faraday cage for the controller and inverter. I have the stuff, I just need to do it.

In the reading I have done, not everything will be fried. . I've read that some areas, depending on their cover, will be shaded. Think of a car under a carport.

I'm looking to build a home at some point. One room will be shielded in aluminum screening, then sheetrocked. This room will house all solar components and the freezer, and serve as storage for other electronics.
 Quoting: ITZCOMING

Been thinking re building a few solar panels and bought instructions.
Someone told me that in order to convert to AC takes electricity that you wouldn't have.
Does this converter operate without the need of other power?
These seem like stupid questions, I know, but as you can see I know 0 about this subject. Many thanks for any help.

If things were to go dark with an EMP the immediate(first few weeks) results are illustrated in real world examples. Just look at any locality, city, country or continent gone dark and run by negroes. Loss of utilities, manufacturing, technologies, food, lawlessness, life gets pretty cheap.

Most of these negro hellholes are supported by 'outside' charity of some kind for basic food/necessities, an EMP senario(living off leftovers) for the first few weeks. But take assistance/leftovers away and you have Somalia- a lifestyle simulating a few months after a EMP. An environment that very few of the 300 million socially&technologically civilized US citizens would survive.

'The Road'(movie) is a good example of the desperation involved, without the imaginary(goofy) US army coming to the rescue in 'One Second After'.

Buy metal chicken wire, wrap your eletrical equipment in it, and make sure to connect a ground pin to the wire.

And you should 'ground' your car (attach the body to a ground pin).

But then again, this only works if you know when an EMP is coming, and you don't so forget this reply.

We are so not prepared....

Microwave ovens(door holes) are designed for one freq, an EMP has a wide band of freqs, likewise bug screen and chicken wire are useless. Only a perfectly solid sheet metal box with a braided seal will work against 'all' freqs. Grounding it will also induce damaging electrical pulses unless done correctly. Lowly ham radio operators, who know all this, will be the only ones talking after an EMP. Worthy of a gratuitous defense perimeter around their property :)

I work on powerlines for a living. I've worked with electricity most of my life. If an event like this takes place, I will be one of the few who will be tasked with putting things back together. Just remember I have a family I have to protect too. Just as all my coworkers do. I will have to balance protecting my family with repairing the system. We all know which will be more personally important.
In the last few years we have had simulated scenarios in my company. They told us it was a practice drill in case there was a disease breakout. A dry run to simulate handing out medication to first responders. I don't believe it. I think it was simulating something entirely different. Possibly mobilization for an occurance like this. I think the elite are more worried about this than is let on. I know a power outage like what we're talking about is my single greatest worry.
If it does happen (a Carrington like event). It will take a lot of work and a VERY long time to repair all the damage. In reality I'm sure most lines wouldn't be repaired at all. The damage would be so widespread that we would have to bring back corridors of power. And reenergize population centers instead of whole cities. Seems to me that would be just what some govt agencies would love. It's a scary thought.

No, they are not.
Broadband EMP is not filtered/shielded.
Even the lowly and basic first 1985 Humvee should carry around an extra 'brainbox'(the electronics) in a shielded 50BMG ammo can. The brainbox is shielded but the wiring harness that leads to it is a antenna for EMP that will toast it. Newer trucks and Humvee replacements are even worse.

You need an older diesel car with a manual transmission for post EMP transportation needs. They will be unaffected by the EMP since you will be able to push start them easily and they will run without electricity. As a bonus they will run perfectly fine on vegetable or hemp oil.

Make no mistake about it; when everything is shut down, Jesus Christ will bless His people to be secure and they would receive supernatural help from God. But those of you that don't know and serve God; will suffer tremendously and be in total terror and great fear!!

The 'one' weak element is the 'fuel shutoff solenoid' in the IP. The lead wire could bring damaging EMP voltage/amps to a 'very very thin' coil winding in the solenoid. Everything else is robust enough to take it.
The '8 Track' might not make it tho :)

AC611,
Seems like whenever there is a 'local' disaster, electric company guys come in from other areas to 'get the job done' and assist, seems to make the fix go a lot faster. What does that do to the time-frame when the repairs are nation wide, and you'd be too few local crews working local repairs? Triage or what?
