Besides, the vast majority of muslims, just like the vast majority of christians and jews, don't know much of anything about their religion.

I think it's also the fact that they don't seem to understand that a lot of Muslims convert to other religions, or seek other religious ideas.

If you actually speak to them they actually believe peace will only come about when everyone is a Muslim and under Sharia. It's really strange; they sometimes get angry if you disagree. Their Qur'an teaches this too.
