The Sun is in the Wrong Place!!
Somebody posted earlier this week that they noticed the sun was too far north.

I decided to check it out myself.

Several years ago, I bought some astronomy software by Meade.

This morning I brought it up, checked to be sure my Lat. and Long. was plugged in correctly, the date and time were correct. I checked for the sun's position at 7:30 am.

According to the software, the sun should be due East.

I left the house at 7:31am and headed down a street that is exactly East and South running. Guess what?

The sun was not at the 12 o'clock position as it should have been. It was at the 10 o'clock position - more East Northeast. It was not just a LITTLE off position, but a LOT.

I don't know what this means, but I thought I'd pass that along.

I did not "read" my software.

It gives me a real-time visual.

You can try harder than that.

Re: The Sun is in the Wrong Place!!
Why should I try harder?

Just about every couple of months, some bozo who doesn't have the slightest idea about astronomy comes up with "the Sun's in the wrong place" or "the Moon's crescenmt is upside down", and one of the few people here who actually stayed awake during 9th grade science class tries to set him straight, to no avail.

If you want to believe that the Sun is in the wrong place, knock yourself out.

Maybe it ties in with "chem-trails" or the Lizards, or the Little Purple Men from Arcturus.

I wondered how long it would be before someone started claiming that the sun is too far north. Happens every year about this time. In October they'll be claiming the sun is too far south.

I notice after making the claim that the street runs East-West that the original poster does not give use the name/city of this street so we can check it ourself.

Very few streets that run East-West are exactly that. Most are of by a couple of degrees because of local conditions/landscape.

Re: The Sun is in the Wrong Place!!
My town is Billings MT.

The street I take to drive to work is Poly. Check the map - it's E/W.

Also, to answer an earlier post, I realize that the sun rises a little to the North this time of year - however, when I was checking the sun's location, it had been a couple hours since rising.

This is not me looking up into the sky and saying, "hmm, the sun looks kinda weird today." It is based on what my software, which when I purchased it several years ago was spot-on, but now is off. Or should I say the Sun/Earth positioning is off.

I would really like some collaboration with other software owners.

Re: The Sun is in the Wrong Place!!
yes the suns position is off a bit

most likly due to pole shift anomly

the north pole is moving north west as i post this

the chandler wobble has stopped and seems to be reversing

check out the moons position at sunset too

it seems to be a bit off to the north west

but consider that the sun is still shining

all is well

Automatic telescopes can track both the Sun and Moon perfectly, just like every other star and heavenly body.

So it isn't out of position. It's moving normally.

But you must know this.

FYI at 5:00 a.m. this morning the sunrise was northeast not east where it normally is this time of year (NY). So I don't think you are too far off, OP. It was quite a bit farther to the north than I've ever noticed it this time of year.

"FYI at 5:00 a.m. this morning the sunrise was northeast not east where it normally is this time of year (NY)."

Ahem, at "this time of year" the sun doesn't rise due east.

For New York it's at 04:33 local time, and on an azimuth of 62.5 degrees - almost 30 degrees north of east.

And by 5:00 it's still on a bearing of 65.75 degrees, not due east. (It doesn't get to due east until around 07:40.)

You can try to ignore the debunkers all you want, but when it comes to something like this we're proven right time and again...

"the same debunkers jump on these kinds of threads every time"

And the same woo-woos start these threads every year. In six months they'll be claiming the sun is too far south.

"ignore molesworth, circuit broken, woman 2.0, and some of the other usual suspects..."

Yes, ignore the "debunkers" and remain ignorant like the AC. Heaven forbid you actually learn something. If the sun were too far north or was in the wrong place, sunrise and sunset times would not be correct. But ignore that fact because the AC does.

"I tell other people to ignore them in their posts, but does tick you off when it's your thread."

So, you don't like it when people don't believe you or have an opposing point of view? Then prove them wrong. Cough up something that proves the sun is out of place. Simply saying it does not make it so. If you don't want people posting in your threads that have an opposing point of view, then start your own forum where you can ban anyone you choose.
