It's just not sustainable. Too fucking bad for the cop, but he chose where to work poorly. I'm not sure why he gets to retire with less than 30 years. Just more bennies they promised. I hope this will not happen to you. Quoting: davvi I joined the Detroit Police Department in 1986. At that time the city had an agreement with the federal government that made Detroit Police officers ineligible for social security and Medicare. We were led to believe that this was to our benefit. We were told that we would be taken care of upon retirement with a pension and health care. Today, this is no longer true. Because of the bankruptcy filing by the city of Detroit, the Emergency Manager has stripped me and my fellow officers of our health-care coverage and is trying to void our pension income. I spent more than 23 years with the Detroit Police Department as a patrol officer. I patrolled the streets of Detroit. I answered calls for service. I did not have an administrative job, nor was I an executive. I have seen some really horrific scenes and fought against the worst violent acts that most people cannot even imagine." [link to www.deadlinedetroit.com] This is the result of decades of Democrat mismanagement and terrible destructive policies as the democrat politician assured themselves of unending power by using tax money to buy votes with the promise of "free-stuff." Now this man who served his city has nothing and will get precisely nothing from a bankrupt city... I will not ask the obvious question, but I will place bets and say that this unionized police officer never considered voting for anyone other than a democrat... I don't believe a word you wrote. |

So if that big word DEFAULT happens and we see no difference, whats funding it. |

Governments aren't the only ones canceling health insurance to retirees. US Pipe and Foundry company canceled Health Insurance to its retirees 2 years ago. Heck they are making record profits. 30 years of hard work and they do that, that is outrageous, but no one cares. The cities and governments that purchase Pipe should think twice, as they US Pipe dump their promises on the governments. The executives need million dollar bonuses, and the owner Wynchurch needs the money more than the retirees need health insurance. At 65 medicaid takes over so its not like its a lot of money. The other pipe companies are a lot more humane, they honor their obligations to retirees. |
