(KCRA) Boots Hawks served the United States for 20 years in the Army, he said Thursday, adding that he has been a good employee at Dameron Hospital for 10 years. But when Hawks wanted to seek legal counsel about a request to remove the words "God Bless America" from his professional email signature, he was met with resistance, he said. But on the Friday before Veterans Day, he said he was placed on administrative leave for insubordination -- all because of the signature, which had contained the "God Bless America" phrase for more than a year before the hospital brought up the issue. Hawks contacted the Pacific Justice Institute, a legal group that now represents him. The institute told KCRA 3 the hospital might be breaking the law. "We are aware that other members of the hospital management circulate mass emails which include philosophical statements," said Matt McReynolds, the attorney handling the case, in a letter to Dameron Hospital. "We know of no legal authority that would justify your censorship." Read more: [link to www.kcra.com] |

Em18966 User ID: 46357440 United States 11/15/2013 03:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not everyone wants to see the word 'god' or hear about someone's god or know that you believe in god based upon opening a business email. The company makes their own policy and as an employee he is bound to follow the policy or not work there. Not everything is a platform for bible thumping. And I like the way you like to politicize this whole thing by referring to they guy as a veteran in the thread title but not mentioning that it was a business email. Veterans are not above the secular law of the land in this country. "In god we trust" and "God Bless America" are simply marketing gimmicks interested into the American vernacular by greedy, lime-light loving politicians who wanted to turn a secular nation into a religious fundamentalist death match. It's absurd. If he wants to have that particular phrase as his business email signature, he should work for a company that allows for it, it's that simple. |

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |
