"We are now doing preparatory work" for the fuel rod removal, a company spokesman told AFP news agency.

More than 1,500 rods must be pulled out of the storage pool where they were being kept when a tsunami smashed into Fukushima in March 2011.

Over the course of two days, the company said it expects to remove 22 rods, with the entire operation scheduled to run for more than a year."

and in that time all it could takes is one sizable quake for the crane to drop a rod.

The chances of slippage is staggeringly high.

also the other reactors could go boom aswell, stalling and tripling the salvage mission.

The whole facility should not have ever been build there to begin with.

Where did they get the 3" led suits? or robots? or...suicide workers?

Because anyone headed in there is a goner. Especially if your close to spent or active rods, and there are over 1000 in there as far as I remember. 700+ in Unit four alone.
