This is normal in a managed economy, OP.

Intervention in all markets in an effort to produce the desired result.

The real question is, as the US has passed Saudi Arabia as the world's largest oil producer, why isn't the shit .99/gallon again?

Because you spend your time on message boards bitching about high gas prices instead of spending some time understanding the relationship between high oil prices and the increase in unconventional production.

I'll give u a quick primer. If I have an oil well that costs $90/barrel to produce and I sell for $100/barrel I make $10/barrel.

If the price of oil goes to $80, do I sell at a $10/loss or wait for the price to rise again. It's an intentional oversimplification but it works.
