Re: Bitcoin Was Created By DARPA
Where does the value come from, when one is bitcoin mining? Is there advertising dollars involved? Who pays someone to mine bitcoins, in other words. Where does one receive the mined value FROM? Our imaginations? From advertisers? What causes the bitcoins you receive via mining to have value?

Also, if bitcoin is not working with the central banks, then it will be stopped somehow. It might be a central bank venture, in which case one might as well invest.

if you actually read the paper that the OP linked to, you'll see the word "bank" mentioned over 100 times. compare/contrast to how many banks are involved in bitcoin; zero.

"To protect against multiple spending, the Bank maintains a database of spent electronic coins."

i.e. this .gov paper is suggesting an electronic currency with a centralised database maintained by the "Bank". a central bank, basically. so while it's true to say that .gov has been investigating cryptographic currencies, it's nonsense to suggest that bitcoin is similar to what they have been writing about, because they of course seek centralisation. the blockchain is bitcoin's database of transactions, and it is so entirely decentralised that anyone who wants to use bitcoin needs to have a copy of it.

also a few links showing just how much .gov likes bitcoin:

Homeland Security Calls Bitcoin an "Emerging Threat"
[link to www.scribd.com]

Feds seize money from Dwolla account belonging to top Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox; Mobile payments service won't move money to and from Mt. Gox post-court order.
[link to arstechnica.com]

from personal experience, buying bitcoins is quite difficult because the banking system makes it so; it took me a good few days of investigation earlier this year to find out how to buy the grand total of 2 bitcoins, because the banking industry closes down any business involved in bitcoin pronto. in the end i found localbitcoins.com, essentially a peer to peer exchange for bitcoins that could only be shut down by closing individual people's bank accounts, rather than company bank accounts.

so, OP, i suggest it is you that is sitting in a DARPA office somewhere, as it's clear upon investigation that the government/banking hybrid really doesn't want you to use bitcoin, because it allows you freedom from their debt money.

OP's statement while it could be true

is baseless and dons't seem correct

Bitcoin while having a great market Cap of 10 billion

(which is a purely speculative value)

is still in a cryogenic stage

Butterfly Labs is a know con artist pyramid company !!!

Also bitcoin has attracted the best scammers from across

the globe so your going to have to be really careful

problem is most of the scammers are grouping together

to discredit honest bitcoiners and then scamming massive

amounts of coin of millions of people cause they though

they where the legitimate people xD

(ie cause they called eveyone else a con artist)

Happy Days

You tell me why mom and pop would ever want to convert their money into Bitcoin, then the general public might give a damn. It's too risky for most people to convert their day to day money supply into what is really just a huge investors gamble at the moment.

Sure if the USD falls apart bitcoin may be an alternative, but even bitcoin is still based on the USD, so why bother converting to it in the first place. Just keep using paypal and USD.

Until then, the tangible value of Bitcoin at its current price is over valued, in reality each bit coin is really only worth the electricity used in mining each coin, which is what, 10 or 20 dollars at best.

Governments can and will make it harder to use considering its difficult to monitor and hard to tax, which means its always going to be a huge risk.

I dont think you know what your talking about. Have you ever mined? I have and quickly gave up. It is very time consuming trying to keep all your miners running right and optimal and the price for the equipment forget it. The average joe with s 9 to five and a family will find it out of the question. I just buy and trade on my days off.

OP, my first modem was "liberated" from a bank back in 1983 and I was that kid who was teaching teachers how to use a computer back when... the one who got called by all of the neighbors to fix their televisions, stereos and computers the same.

Heck, I was 11 years old and laughed when movies like War Games and Weird Science came out and people believed what computers could do.

You're spot on and I wish I could share the things my naked eyes have seen on the net over the years.

That said, I worked for many of the top companies in telecommunications and computers just so I could have access to tech and more importantly, trunks and access points from the inside.

I claim to know nothing and even less in a court of law under oath. ;)

Keep on keeping on.

Re: Bitcoin Was Created By DARPA
The post below is mostly correct, Bitcoin doesn't really have a strong value proposition from a purely mathematical viewpoint. It is indeed created by 'insiders' of some variety(USG, Central Bankers) something like this and to think it's some kind of libertarian force is just a JOKE. If you look closely at all the people involved it's fairly obvious it's an insider 'black op' sort of thing.

I've been involved in Altcoins for a some time and I know a thing or two about what's going on.

The Altcoins sprung up not long after Bitcoin and there is quite a bit of diversity there. Mostly OP is right, they are some of the WORST scams imaginable run by some of the worst people imaginable. This is mostly by design of the bitcoin whales- they make sure the people who are fully funded are the ones that are going to make a quick buck AND spoil any alternatives to Bitcoin that may spring up. If you look closely in these projects you will see petty criminals, drug lords, weapons smuggling, and worse. The criminal underground likes these technologies because they can store their wealth and invest their dirty blood money.

Bitcoin was supposedly invented by someone named Satoshi Nakamoto, but more than likely it was written by a man named Adam Back, who circles around the Bitcoin space and has a background in the fields of math and engineering that Bitcoin requires. In addition he was also involved with Tor, which was another similar sort of project funded by USG posing as an privacy device:

this is a rather famous article: [link to pando.com]

The exact details of Bitcoin's genesis have yet to emerge, but most who have spent any time in this area know it's something to do with USG or some such. I know of people who have been harassed/threatened by getting to close to the truth. Im not sure if OP has it exactly right, he seems to have collected all the controversial facts together and come to a conclusion, he's not an actual insider.

There are loads of aspects to all this. If anyone has a question, go ahead and ask I might be able to clarify.

Bitcointalk is another aspect to all this.

Sounds about right to me, OP. All you morans thinking Bitcoin is an anti-establishment, libertarian invention will have a rude awakening. You really think some shady character creates something like Bitcoin, something that can't be taxed nor regulated by the Rothschild-owned network of worldwide central banks, and the Illuminati are okay with it? Haha you guys are fools.

The Rothschilds send the U.S. military to foreign countries and bomb them back to the stone age, ruthlessly murdering millions of innocent people, all in order to install a Rothschild-owned, usurious central bank in the country, and you think they're just fine with something like Bitcoin being outside their control? WAKE UP AND SMELL REALITY.

And by the way, this idea that so-called "mining" gives Bitcoins value is so ridiculously fallacious, I don't even know where to begin. I worked on the dev side when I was in IT and I have a math degree, so I laugh when people try to bullshit me about Bitcoin's math-derived "value". You Bit-tards have no clue what money is. It would behoove you to figure that out at some point in your lives.

Really good write up OP.

I guess the question is, do we trade our eye of Sauron backed dollars for BTC so when the paper blows up we can ride the BTC up. I am not endorsing or not endorsing using it. However, I like to hedge and if the fiat system goes, I would like to retain my purchasing power.

Why haven't any of you learned anything about computers?

If its on a computer, it is vulnerable, period.

BitCoin's value is based on it's difficulty to gather, the problem being is every damn day, technology doubles. BitCoin is well on its way to being cracked and minded down to miniscule value.

Haven't any of you kept up with the cryogenic core computer Google has invested in? You think that thing can't mine a BitCoin a day? You're sadly mistaken. Google may *already* have the ability to mine BitCoin faster than anyone or anything on Earth.

Sell high, cuz the same day its cracked it won't be worth a dime

Bitcoin's security is certainly questionable.

The account security(not mining) is based on Elliptic Curve Cryptography which is known to be breakable with a Quantum Computer(see Shor's Algorithm). So the question is, does *the enemy* have a quantum computer?

what do you think?

fact: Quantum Computers are soon going to be available to the public, do you think the govt and Big Capital don't have them?

That geographical area has a lot of activity in the Cryptospace, in particular Flemish/Dutch.

Bitcointalk is, last time I checked, hosted with a Dutch ISP.

This could be due to a number of things. .nl has supposedly a friendly legal environment. Digicash, an early cryptocurrency company was Dutch based.

Israel is another big player in Bitcoin it seems.

There are a disproportionate number of Bitcoin experts who hail from Israel. One branch off project from Bitcoin, Color Coins- is mostly Israeli both in financial supports and technical support.

I suppose the USG origin of Bitcoin appealed to Israeli interests to build compatibility layers and such.
