It's pretty clear in that video that ISON was hit.
So either it was accidental which would be a miracle considering it's traveled for millions of years without mishap, or it was shot.
By us? For what reason?
Testing space weapons? Or was ISON a threat to Earth?
Have they made the threat worse?

So to give them the benefit of the doubt it was obviously considered a threat and they wanted to take it out.
So I'm withdrawing the speculation they were intentionally steering it in to de-populate the Earth.
They appeared to miss when it when it was moving at it fastest during the minutes of perihelion and had to rely on the next shooting satellite in the sequence.
Unfortunately this satellite had to fire down onto at a tangential angle for maximum kinetic effect which means the debris is now heading towards us.
They must be confident that the remaining satellites they have can take out the dinosaur killers leaving only small stuff.
Maybe that recent multiple satellite launch had something to do with it?
