They found this volcanic island erupting on 11/20/2013. The diameter was 200m. 2 days later, they found 2 craters erupting once in 2~3 minutes. On 12/1/2013, the island grew to be 2.5 times much as the size of 11/21/2013. (Approx. 0.04 km2) The eruption of smoke reached 2,000 m height. The Maritime Safety Agency states still it’s actively erupting, doesn’t seem to stop soon. The new island is in 500m S-S-E of Nishinoshima island, which is another volcanic island. This island was also made of the submarine volcano eruption in 1973. This volcano had not erupted since the dawn of history until then. [ link to fukushima-diary.com] |
