Her husband actually said...

lmao! thanks for the lol's!!!
nah. my husband would give naything to see me finally publish something. he likes my writing a lot!
I have always been a writer on the inside, ever since my grandmother gave me an old manual fifty pound typewriter! I used to snag old church bulletins from an elementary school teacher because they were blank on the back, and pound away for hours at a time on my typewriter. All my teachers encouraged it, saying i had great potential. I think it is fear of failure that always stops me. As long as i never try, i will never have to fail and risk losing that part of me. it is very scary to actually attempt something that is so tied into who you are. If i lose this, who will i be? What will my dream be then?

Best you get on it! As each day of your life passes you learn to dream a little smaller each day.

haha - i AM on it, just trying to STAY on it. Now i have to, if for no other reason than to not feel shame a few months from now when one of you asks "so how is the book going?". I have committed myself now, and have to see it through to the end, even if it is dismal failure waiting for me there.

Have the same problem. Write lts and then stop. Just hit a dead end or something.

I think the key is finding an editor who can help you shape the story and push you forward. Problem is finding a good one who will do it for free. i have no idea how to do that, but maybe others here do

Also you may want to try [link to writeordie.com] if you have never used it. You set the amount of words you want to type in a time frame, like 15 minutes or 30 mins and select the punishment. You can try the web one free, just remember to copy & save your work. He also sells one you can download on your pc. Good luck GG.

Don’t get hung up on single words needed for expressing, just get it out and go back to it later to tweak it.

There are lots of wannabe writers on twitter, go there and make some friends who will stir up that motivation/ competition you need. They will also give you editing feedback.

Try a 1k/ 1 hour challenge - sit for 1 hour & pound out as many words as you can. This works better if you're working from an outline vs 'seat of the pants.'

People can make a living selling stories but it's HARD. You really need to be putting out a book every 6-8 weeks, AND have a following, which means having an online persona you also work at. If you want it bad enough to put the hours in, it can be done.

i disagree with the book every 8 weeks. i dont see how that would be possible. at least not the kind of books i would be writing. they are far too long to be written and edited in two months. I might get a first draft done in that time though!

Re: My husband said i should log out of GLP and finally write my book, so I made this thread. 48k words - almost half!
I like this! As a fellow writer....

A couple years ago I wrote a 50,000 word story in about four or five weeks, beginning to end. The editing hell has dragged on for years(of course).

I wrote it quickly in a panic as if the world would end if I didn't finish it. I wrote everyday, I wrote for hours. I couldn't WAIT to reach the end. It was like the same feeling you get when you're reading a good book and then you feel sad once you've reached the end(you couldn't wait to get to the end but once you get there it's kind of sad).

I had the ending of the book in my mind before I ever began. And I began without a plot-line, without all that stuff, I just began.

I would have to disagree kindly with one replier, the key is not a good editor(that stuff comes after you've written your story, I say).

The key is feeling like it is the most important thing you've ever done IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. The key is feeling like no one else in the world could ever tell your story, so YOU must, you're the ONLY ONE that can do it. And if you make the ending the most important part of the story(in my humble opinion, endings ARE the most important part of the story) then you'll be forced to reach the end... the feeling of importance and impending doom upon NOT completing it will never leave you throughout your journey. It will feel like a life or death situation because you have a destination to reach and you won't be personally fulfilled until you reach it. And again(forgive me for reiterating), because it's the BIGGEST thing you've ever done and who care's if it's the ONLY thing you'll ever do(I didn't).

But I mainly write therapeutically(I turn true stories into fiction stories). And I write during times of extreme loneliness(with a "fuck the world" attitude). My endings are the closure's that I fantasize about, they will vindicate me as a fellow human being on this planet. Those vindications are important to me, very personally, very selfishly. Which means writing, for me, is shamelessly self-indulgent and self-fulfilling.

Without that I don't know how I would ever have finished a story. I'm not sure if one can just will this manic panic up at a whim or how to make something feel so enormous in purpose. But I do know, now, that because I did it once... I can do it again. And I will.

well said!! I think there are many reasons for wanting to write vindication, as you call it, is a very true motivator. In a sense, i like to see certain things inside me come out in the writing. But mainly i write because i have to. i can go for a while without writing, but after a while i start getting stories in my head that nag me. they are relentless. once they atart keeping me awake at night, then i know it is time to get them out. i just wish i didnt kill them all. chuckle

this time i made sure to get the plot outlined, and i was surprised to find it would take three books to tell this story, so i am taking good care of it to see that it doesnt die. I am like someone that LOVES gardening but can't keep a plant alive.
