Well, I didnt get to 25,000 today. Christmas is coming up, did you guys all knowÉÉ
sorry, my question mark button is stuck in french mode even though my computer is set to US english. Guess no more questions for me, ehÉ
Yes, I did a double take when I looked at the calendar today. All my mom wants for Christmas this year is a new set of placemats. I quilted her a set about a billion years ago, and she has decided she wants something new. So I made a mad dash out to get fabric, spent hours trying to come up with just the right pattern, and all night sewing. Only half finished. Still have to applique little birds on them and then finish them up. I enjoy doing it, so all is good, and the busy work it provided freed up my mind to dwell upon my characters a bit without the pressure of having to put thoughts and feelings into specific words on a page.
So I guess all is well.

Well, the holidays got in my way a lot, but i didnt mind too much, since i had gotten a bit stuck anyway! However, I was beginning to feel my characters going stale in my head, so I had to force myself to jump back into it. I think it will take me a couple of days to really get my momentum going again. :(

wow - amazing how a few lazy days can create such a setback. Second day back to writing and i find i am still struggling to force words out of me. I k now what I am writing right now is the shittiest ever, lol, but i am writing it down anyway. I just keep telling myself it can all be fixed in the second draft!

[link to i.imgur.com]

made it to 26,000! And this thousand words I am particularly proud of, just because of how hard they were to come by.

It doesnt help that earlier today i came up with a great concept for a series of sci-fi novels. I keep trying to think about the fantasy, and trying to keep the sci fi out of my head, haha. the conflicts!!

now at 27,000! still going strong, though the holidays stole a lot of time from me. I didnt fight it - it is what it is, haha. My new year's resolution is to finish this book and never rest until it gets published!
I was worried that in a few days when my upgrade ended I would not be able to come back to this thread anymore for a few months, as there is a ban on my IP. But i was offered an upgrade from a most amazing glper - so it looks like i dont have to worry!!There are such sweet and thoughtful souls on GLP - i just love this place. So I wont be going anywhere for at least another month. Yay!

Happy New Year everyone!

so I have made it to 29,000. My new year's resolution is to take this even more seriously!! I have been doing my paltry thousand words a day, and then slacking off. I could be at the 50,000 word mark by now if i had any self-discipline! So no more time wasted, at least not to the extent i have been doing up until now. It is just so hard, dangit - especially when i dont feel well. But i am just beeing whiney and childish. I can do this. my husband is putting all his faith in me. I cant let him down!!
I actually have a sneaky feeling that i am alone in this thread now too, lol! COme back everyone that was following along! Tell me your stories about your writing - i was enjoying it. Anyone have progress to report? Advice on how to make myself sit up straight and fly right?

*update: 29,000 words and still going.*

chuckle

no, my sweet husband isn't an ass or anything. But he knows how much i likes my glp. So, when I complained about not having the time to finally write this book I have been putting off, he kindly (and timidly) suggested that if I didn't spend so much time CT-porning, I would have the time needed to actually write.

So, now i think i shall compromise by turning glp into a "resource", hahaha!

So, anyone else out there struggling to get the words out? Any success in overcoming writer's block? Any hurdles, struggles, successes?

Maybe we creative writers could have a little cheer leading thread to help keep us going. And also, when we do give in to temptation and log in, this thread in our "recent threads" might shame us into making our visits a little shorter so we can get back to our masterpieces!!

And if GLP is "helping" me out, then he can hardly complain, can he?

Click on the "Random line generator" on the same link.
>
[link to www.languageisavirus.com]

It generates random lines. A group of words that only seem to make a sentence. If you are a budding writer, (like me) then you can use that to practise your writing skills.
I hit that link twice , and I got these two lines;

•Apple red rosy brown Moon Shadow Shooting star Milk honey torso
•smiles white strawberry rent gold glow kiss lemon freeze moon rain

So here's a short paragraph I wrote using those two lines of words. You have to use those words in your story , not necessarily in the order its presented.
This was typed in quickly, so no edit , and probably lots of literary mistakes.

DOWNTOWN
by Abhie
-----------
The candle light danced its enchanting yellow gold light across her face.We were seated near the window, and the streetlights added an edge of purple and green across the side of her face. For a moment she was my diva, a long forgotten Godess, now shining in front of me in ethereal spleandor, as if projected in holographic reality across from me. Except Laurie was no hologram. She was real. I had to keep reminding myself of that. Because everything that happened in the last few days seemed more like a story, a
fantasy come true. Magical moments that seemed to push reality away creating an impossible momentary lapse.
The rose petals on the water tumbler gave it that exotic touch. Lauries normally auburn hair shimmered rosy-brown in the night lights of the city. The apple red sequined gown she wore, clung to her body enhancing the contours and the sequin work glittering everytime she moved.
Laurie broke into my reverie.
"What are you thinking about..?" She asked, her voice seeming to have the texture of milk and honey.
"Nothing....in particular. I was looking at you. You look so beautiful in the night light. You look like magic".
She smiled, turning her head toward the window trying to hide her feeling of happiness. The smile lingered. The corners of her lips , with their permanent lilt upwards, seemed to shine with a light of their own.
"And...." She asked, "What kind of magic?
"Downtown is my favorite place for dinner. Always has been. Ted's place serves the best food. Adding you into the mix is sheer magic. The pleasurable kind" I said.
She smiled again, this time it was a sort of secretive smile. A hint like the flash of a shooting star. She reached for the drink, the dark velvety fabric of her gown contrasted sharply with the bright soft flesh of her torso.
"You are magic too" She said. Taking a sip of her wine.
She smiled her strawberry smile again, this time hooking me deeper into her trance. I was a willing apprentice. Where she wanted me to go, I would go. Voluntarily. "I like it when you blow me kisses" I said. She probably saw a twinkle in my eye. She smiled again, and blew me another strawberry kiss. And I felt it too.Grazing my face. Brushing across me like a soft Moon shadow.

Have you tried Adobe InDesign instead of Word? I prefer InDesign over word. Also there are specific book writing software. Scrivener is good too.

Here's an article on how InDesign is great for writing books:

Also GG, if you are worried about your daily word-count, here's a book which I came across, on how to increase your word count.
