hi - thanks for the tip. I actually have inDedsign. As a graphic designer i have to have and use all the adobe tools. But i was never a big fan of indesign, lol. I dont like the way it looks. When i started college all i knew was photoshop, and i rebelled against all other programs for some reason. They did convert me into a big-time illustrator fan, but sadly they could not foster any lov ein me for inDesign. It does have really good functions, i will admit, and there are projects that come across my desk that I know i have to use indesign for, but i never go to it willingly yet. I suppose i should work on that. I am a creature of habit. It actually took me a long enough time to learn how to write on a computer in word at all. Before that i used a very old manual typewriter. The kind you had to really pound on the keys to make work. It was a gift from my grandmother in the 80's, and i loved it. Switching to a computer took a big adjustment, and my writing even suffered! Now i am good with Word, and i hate the thought of switching again!!!

Please listen to your husband and log off...forever. so fucking annoying and self consumed.

Also, you definitely know a book is going to quality when the author's primary focus is word count. Here count this:

Talent.

myfocus is not word count. Word count is just a way for me to break down a thing i have trouble with into smaller, manageable portions. If i can watch the word count increasing, it makes me feel like i am accomplishing my goal. It is a measure. Like a dieting person ticking off pounds lost. it can help to stay on track. My biggest challenge has always been sticking with it. so far i am doing better than ever, so maybe it is working.

Mine is gonna be either erotic fantasy or sic fic, who knows? but i still have to find the ending to the first book. and that way i can outline the second. its gonna have to be erotic fantasy.

I had hoped to get a good chunk of writing done tonight, but our power went out for almost 6 hours, and the laptop was the first thing to lose charge, lol. So now once i get the kids into bed i will be writing up a storm. Brr - it got cold in here too - thank goodness we had my in-laws' house to go to. theirs is much warmer and their propane stove meant we could have hot food and coffee too while we waited out the outage.

Well, yesterday's power failure ruined y day and kept me from writing. I would have picked up a pen and paper, but i get too distracted by the process of manually writing that i cant focus on the words, lol. I have the worst penmanship around. i hate writing.
So today i am hoping to get a big chunk done, possibly even make it to 35,000. that would put me at a third of the way done. I would like that!

as i said in my OP update, this week i came very close to giving up. I have been tired, sore - fibromyalgia is not a fun thing to deal with. I was letting my difficulty concentrating convince me that i must just be a sucky writer and should stop wasting time. It took me until today to realize that just because i was having trouble, it did not mean i always would. it is so easy when staring at a blank page to just sigh and walk away, and i did just that.
But i came back, and worked it out - it helps that i was able to get a lot of rest today with the girls back in school.
1/3 done - and so much more left to do. I know there will be a lot of moments when i want to turn my back on it all - after all, if i never finish it and fail, then i can go on thinking i could be a writer, instead of knowing that i can't.

I do seem to be the only one left in this thread, but that is ok. At this point i am doing it as much for myself as for anyone else, so i will keep it updated. Perhaps one day I will be able to look back at it as a kind of captain's log of my progress, haha.
Anyway, at 35,000 now, not quite halfway to my goal, but beginning to feel like i have passed th halfway mark of my plot. I might not have 100,000 words to this story after all, at least not in the first draft. The revision will be adding a lot of the filler of the story, so i will not fret about it at this point.

heehee - i used to, back when i lived in the country with no neighbours. but now i am in the city, with many people walking past my window everyday, lol. And I am not a soft and sweet singer - more like a broadway belter, lol. It gets loud, haha.
i have not sung loudly since i moved here. now my voice is rusty, sadness.

i am approaching quickly my record when it comes to writing. the closest i have ever gotten to writing a book in the past was (i think) 38,000 words before i gave up. I am hoping that even if i fail this time, i will at the very least do better than last time, lol. Looking promising!

the exciting part is that i see the end in sight. Sooner than i expected, but it is there. I can't wait to begin revision - to hammer this story into something wonderful.

Tomorrow marks one month since you've started this thread, and you're 1/3 the way through. At this rate, in two more months you'll have gotten it all down on paper, and the fine-tuning can begin.

Has it really been a month?? I had not kept track - sweet of you to have noticed! I am feeling so hopeful about this book. Writing is about the only skill i have left that i (think) i can do. It would mean so much to my family if i could make it work, and make me less of a burden to my husband. I try not to think about what is riding on this crazy idea to just "become a writer". Oh wow - i just super stressed myself out just now, bahaha! OK - no more dwelling, only writing now. i am off, but will be back shortly with another screenshot.
