I don't understand, is free beer some sort of meme? Where is this coming from?

in the strictest of logical terms for my 01 brain, i don't recall legal documents ever having some issue being held up in court over what font or letter case one happened to use in there legelese.

all i re~member about font case in legal documents is that someone kept leaving the caps-lock key on, which made it seem like they were yelling at you.

There are two usages:

FREE BEER is a way to advertise, whether you are giving it away or not, to get people to come to your function

FREE AS IN BEER is a play on words, referring to the above usage

it's kinda neat how i was able to sandbox the so-called "schizo" thought virus some gangstalker infected the "bio-api" of my 01 brain with. i can just let it out when i want to, and kill the process when i'm bored with it. simulism sure is a lot more fun when you finally start re~membering how the SDK to your avatar's ai works.

The "free beer" meme is mostly used by fanatic open source software proponents, to separate the kind of (meticulously restricted) freedom they propose from the freedom of not having to pay for software.

It's meant to be derogatory - as in retards only want free beer, but we more enlightened GNU GPL licensing smurfs want the freedom to restrict others from doing what they want with our "free" software.

First reference I remember hearing of "free beer"
was Richard Stallman of free software movement explaining what free software is.
Richard Stallman summarised the difference in a slogan: "Think free as in free speech, not free beer."

oh okay. i didn't pick up on that at all. i'm pretty damn good at wordplay, but he seems to have built something in the cloud that i have to waste a lot of my resources to block rather than just blindly loading up whatever he's broadcasting. i believe in transparency.
