341st Missile Security Forces Airman dies on-duty while Exercising

Malmstrom AFB rated "unsatisfactory" in nuclear inspection

'The Air Force Global Strike Command Inspector General team conducted an inspection of the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base from August 5-13 to evaluate the organization's ability to execute operations while complying with nuclear surety standards.

According to a press release from Air Force Global Strike Command, the 341st Missile Wing received a rating of "unsatisfactory" after making "tactical-level errors during one of several exercises conducted during the inspection."

The failure resulted in the entire inspection being graded "unsatisfactory."'

Commander of Malmstrom security forces relieved of command

'Colonel David Lynch, the commander of the 341st Security Forces Group at Malmstrom Air Force Base, was relieved of command on August 22nd ... Lynch's removal is not due to the missile wing's recent unsatisfactory rating during a Nuclear Surety Inspection, but as the base prepares for a re-inspection, "Stanley must have full confidence in the leadership ability of his commanders."'

Second-in-command of the country's nuclear arsenal is suspended as he is investigated for GAMBLING

'The No. 2 officer at the military command in charge of all U.S. nuclear war-fighting forces has been suspended and is under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigation Command for issues related to gambling, officials said Saturday.

Air Force strips 17 officers of power to launch intercontinental nuclear missiles

'WASHINGTON – The Air Force stripped an unprecedented 17 officers of their authority to control -- and, if necessary, launch -- nuclear missiles after a string of unpublicized failings, including a remarkably dim review of their unit's launch skills. The group's deputy commander said it is suffering "rot" within its ranks.

"We are, in fact, in a crisis right now," the commander, Lt. Col. Jay Folds, wrote in an internal email obtained by The Associated Press and confirmed by the Air Force.

Asked about this at a Senate hearing Wednesday, Air Force Secretary Michael Donley, the service's top official, explained the problem by stressing that launch control officers are relatively junior in rank -- lieutenants and captains -- and need to be reminded continually of the importance of "this awesome responsibility" for which they have been trained....'

Report: Nuclear officers, including at Malmstrom, left blast door open

'Twice this year alone, U.S. Air Force officers entrusted with the launch keys to nuclear-tipped missiles have been caught leaving open a blast door that is intended to help prevent a terrorist or other intruder from entering their underground command post, Air Force officials have told The Associated Press.

The blast doors are never to be left open if one of the crew members inside is asleep — as was the case in both these instances — out of concern for the damage an intruder could cause, including the compromising of secret launch codes.

Transgressions such as this are rarely revealed publicly. But officials with direct knowledge of Air Force intercontinental ballistic missile operations told the AP that such violations have happened, undetected, many more times than in the cases of the two launch crew commanders and two deputy commanders who were given administrative punishments this year.

The blast door violations are another sign of serious trouble in the handling of the nation’s nuclear arsenal. The AP has discovered a series of problems within the ICBM force, including a failed safety inspection, the temporary sidelining of launch officers deemed unfit for duty and the abrupt firing last week of the two-star general in charge. The problems, including low morale, underscore the challenges of keeping safe such a deadly force that is constantly on alert but is unlikely ever to be used.

The crews who operate the missiles are trained to follow rules without fail, including the prohibition against having the blast door open when only one crew member is awake, because the costs of a mistake are so high....'

'The two-star general in charge of all Air Force nuclear missiles was fired Friday following a probe into alleged personal misbehavior -- just days after another key official overseeing U.S. nuclear power was relieved of duty.

The Air Force announced Friday that Maj. Gen. Michael Carey was removed from command of the 20th Air Force, which is responsible for three wings of intercontinental ballistic missiles -- a total of 450 missiles at three bases across the country.

NUKE TROUBLES RUN DEEP; KEY OFFICERS "BURNED OUT"

'WASHINGTON (AP) -- Trouble inside the Air Force's nuclear missile force runs deeper and wider than officials have let on.

An unpublished study for the Air Force, obtained by The Associated Press, cites "burnout" among launch officers with their fingers on the triggers of 450 weapons of mass destruction. Also, evidence of broader behavioral issues across the intercontinental ballistic missile force, including sexual assaults and domestic violence.

The study, provided to the AP in draft form, says that court-martial rates in the nuclear missile force in 2011 and 2012 were more than twice as high as in the overall Air Force. Administrative punishments, such as written reprimands for rules violations and other misbehavior, also were higher in those years.

These indicators add a new dimension to an emerging picture of malaise and worse inside the ICBM force, an arm of the Air Force with a proud heritage but an uncertain future.

Concerned about heightened levels of misconduct, the Air Force directed RAND Corp....'

"Last year the number of suicides in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines spiked to 349 for the
full 12-month period, the highest since the Pentagon began closely tracking the numbers in 2001,
and up from the 2011 total of 301. There were 295 Americans killed in Afghanistan [war] last year,

First sign of Radiation poisoning is heart attack...

i dont like this, ive been having madd chest pains tinglyness and blurry vision, and this just recently started occuring, id say the past few weeks. No coughing or anything but pretty sever pain and when i went to the hospital they did chest xrays and an ekg, told me i was fine and basically prescribed me aleeve.
