From the non-functional Healthcare.gov website fiasco to the cancellation of millions (soon to be tens of millions) of existing health insurance policies to the heart-stopping sticker shock on replacement policies, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has drawn brickbats from critics all across the political spectrum. [link to thenewamerican.com] “Reid said he thinks the country has to ‘work our way past’ insurance-based health care,” the Sun reported. “What we’ve done with Obamacare,” Reid said, “is have a step in the right direction, but we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever.” When then asked by the PBS interviewer whether he meant ultimately the country would have to have a healthcare system that abandoned insurance as the means of accessing it, Reid replied: “Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes.” “We had a real good run at the public option — don’t think we didn’t have a tremendous number of people who wanted a single-payer system,” Reid said, referring to the contentious battles over ObamaCare. |

And you got some great things, and – that was kind of his philosophy. Take what you can get and move it forward. NANCY PELOSI: Oh, well, we got much more than that. We got much more than that. Yes, Teddy was the person who said, 'you have to – you have to see a victory and recognize it when it is in sight.' I wanted to have a bill that accomplished the same things as a single-payer or a public option would do. Even if we couldn’t get the votes in the Senate to do the public option. And I believe we did that. I think we would have saved more money if we had the public option and I think that -- but I think that our purposes are served by this. And if it enabled us to go forward, then so be it. One of these days, I still believe that we can -- the decision, the judgment will be made, maybe by states about their doing single-payer on their own and the rest. But in the meantime, as far as meeting the needs of individuals and families there, and as I keep saying, as far as our families are concerned, the best is yet to come. |

Nor would anything SC could do stop people from signing up for insurance through the Federal exchanges or keep people from receiving their subsidies or getting their claims paid. It's again more empty, money and time-wasting posturing from Republicans who know better. |

Truman made a push for it back in 1947, which was opposed by the AMA. When the term "socialized medicine" first appeared in the United States in the early 1900s, it bore no negative connotations. Otto P. Geier, chairman of the Preventive Medicine Section of the American Medical Association (AMA), was quoted in The New York Times in 1917 as praising socialized medicine as a way to "discover disease in its incipiency," help end "venereal diseases, alcoholism, tuberculosis," and "make a fundamental contribution to social welfare."[20] However, by the 1930s, the term socialized medicine was routinely used negatively by conservative opponents of publicly funded health care who wished to imply it represented socialism, and by extension, communism.[21] Universal health care and national health insurance were first proposed by U.S President Theodore Roosevelt.[22][23][24] President Franklin D. Roosevelt later championed it, as did Harry S. Truman as part of his Fair Deal[25] and many others. Truman announced before describing his proposal that: "This is not socialized medicine".[21] Government involvement in health care was ardently opposed by the AMA which distributed posters to doctors with slogans such as "Socialized medicine ... will undermine the democratic form of government."[26] According to T.R. You will have no other access anywhere else, you will have no choice, you will get care that if poor previously when you had a choice, will get much much worse since anyone with skills enough to bypass serving the system will opt out. Owastocare is a Potemkin village, or more properly a Potemkin hospital which is all facade and no substance. You will pay through the nose for a prop that will control and criminalize you as you seek to bypass the system for any personal benefit. |
