BLACK SWANS Surf on the Gold Coast, Australia
Never seen a swan in the ocean before, let alone surfing. How cool.

A group of black swans have been filmed surfing off a beach on the Gold Coast, astonishing swimmers.

Initially just floating on the waves at Kirra on the Gold Coast's south, one of the swans decided to take advantage of the swell and catch a wave.

The three others with it saw the fun and decided to get in on it themselves.

Re: BLACK SWANS Surf on the Gold Coast, Australia
When I first watched this video last night on youtube, I laughed, I loved the idea of these swans dancing in the surf like that.

But this morning on waking, someone pointed out to me the rare phoneme of the black swan.

So I did a little research on the subject and came up with this:

The event is a surprise (to the observer).
The event has a major effect.
After the first recorded instance of the event, it is rationalized by hindsight, as if it could have been expected; that is, the relevant data were available but unaccounted for in risk mitigation programs. The same is true for the personal perception by individuals.

Re: BLACK SWANS Surf on the Gold Coast, Australia
I was actually there yesterday watching these swans bopping around in the water . It was strange as they stuck really close together and their long necks weresticking up , but I had no idea what they were untill one is caught up in a wave and is swept to shore . Its not a funny as the video makes out as the swans has a very long neck and it was getting almost dumped by those waves . But it survived and those stupid people wre all standing there laughing and screaming out loud when you have a bird in distress . .
I was quite annoyred by them as they should have moved away from them as it came in to allow it to get its composure back and get back to the others who also came in to get their buddy . Vey tight knit group . Swans dont swim in the ocean and they dont come up this far north on the Gold Coast . I wish I knew where they had come from .
We recently had battered black birds who were migratory and had been battered by heavy constant winds that are very unusual too . . Dead birds everywhere as they were exhausted by the winds
So more detail with this sanns episode was that for two days in row we had been under heavy chemtrail smog . So go figure

While watching this I was actually wondering if they were just getting tossed around and they weren't enjoying it at all. I have my doubts they were "surfing" for fun. Probably just wanted to swim like normal and didn't know waves would screw them up since they don't normally go in the ocean.

There are black swans living in the lakes in Banora Point, which is basically next door to Cooly/Kirra.

However, there have been a lot of dead birds on the beaches from the gold coast and down into Northern NSW recently.

The official explanation for the mutton birds was that they died of exhaustion before reaching their destination. Sounds pretty fishy though.

Re: BLACK SWANS Surf on the Gold Coast, Australia
The Black Swan's preferred habitat extends across fresh, brackish and salt water lakes, swamps and rivers with underwater and emergent vegetation for food and nesting materials. Permanent wetlands are preferred, including ornamental lakes, but Black Swans can also be found in flooded pastures and tidal mudflats, and occasionally on the open sea near islands or the shore.

Since they don't seem to mind salt water, I would guess they have encountered waves before.

Re: BLACK SWANS Surf on the Gold Coast, Australia
Things are definately getting strange in Queensland. Now dogs are tripping out - on cane toad poison.

Dogs addicted to cane toad hallucinogen

Queensland dogs addicted to hallucinogenic sweat found on the backs of toads are hunting down the creatures to get their fix.

Vets warn that some dogs are risking their lives for the cheap thrill, with an increasing number of repeat offenders dubbed "serial lickers" treated for cane toad poisoning several times a year, the Courier Mail reported.

And with the wet season approaching, dog owners are being urged to help their pets kick the deadly addiction before it's too late.

Nikita Den Engelse, 27, of Hemmant, is one such owner, after she found her best friend Wally frothing at the mouth and trembling on two separate occasions.

"The vet told me dogs will lick toads because it gives them hallucinations from it," she said.
