Its real, they have a ground penetrating radar on it to look for rare minerals. They think the area they are checking out is full of minerals. The race to mine the moon is starting.

To everyone bitching about stars not being visible -- stars aren't visible in space

Our atmosphere makes starlight visible; stars are generally invisible from space to the wavelength we know as "visible" light, hence the reason for infrared on Hubble, etc

Of course it is? :)

Why would you be able to see the Earth from the Moon if star light was invisible in space?

Go out in a clear night and take a quick, fast shutter pic of the stars. Bet they don't show up hardly. Now do it while standing on a floor made of pure 60 watt light bulbs as well and by none of them show up. The light pollution if the sun reflecting off the moon must be huge. Now if there were a lander on the dark side of the moon I would be suspicious if you couldn't see the stars, especially if it were a longer exposure.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51825743

The stars are very far away and the only light that reaches us from them comes from a very small percentage of photons that happen to be on sufficiently parallel paths to have gotten from the Point A (the star) to Point B (the observer on Earth). The parallel path thing means that the starlight is focused like a cheap laser, which then scatters somewhat when it hits atmosphere and makes the star appear bigger.

Try this with a cheap laser pointer...point it at the ground and it makes a little dot. Point it at a distant object and it appears larger. Same thing.

In space, without atmospheric lensing, all of the light falls on that really small beam-path, which may or may not be above the imaging resolution of the eye or device.

The sun, however, is close, and the Earth and Moon are close, so there isn't the "point source" phenomenon which is due to distance. Proximity paints a larger footprint on the viewing field, and thus there is a larger apparent area from which photons are emitted or reflected. Less distance also means less scatter, so you can see them quite clearly.

My only real observation on the photo reflections from the rover at issue was that the ground must be very flat for the reflection not to ripple or contain changing shadow areas representing high points and dimples in the surface. That seems a bit suspect.

Faking a moon landing in the '60s, when dual/quadricore home computers and powerful software of image/video analysis were not around and conspiracy theories were unthinkable to the average Joe, is ONE thing, faking a moon landing in 2013 with all this technology available and smartass conspiritards multiplying like rats, is ANOTHER entirely different animal.

The colors were made to look black and white(on the movie set) as that is how the moon appears at a distance. color loss at a distance is known light phenomenon...
[liveleak] [link to www.liveleak.com]

just as they red shifted mars in earlier footage so it met our expectations of it being a red planet ...when reality is it looks a lot like some of our deserts as we can better see in newer footage.

The mere fact that is does look different and we can see color lends further evidence to it being a genuine landing.

If they are going to land something on the moon for people to see, why don't they just load that lander with a huge laser strobe light to flash back at earth? You may be able to see that with a good telescope.

The problem here is that the shills are trying to make the Chinese moon hoax exclusively about the issue of stars in the lunar sky, but I don't see ANY of them addressing the discrepancy in the shadows of both the lander and the rover, which still pretty much the same all over the week, regardless from where their pictures were taken by each other.

[link to n24i.img-up.net]
[link to i22i.img-up.net]

The lander pictures are more weird, because the rover took one in front and other from behind, and the lander's shadow points toward the same direction anyway.

The Moon does not rotate as does the Earth. It is tidally locked and the same face always presents itself to the Earth. The reason the shadows are not changing much is because the orientation of that surface of the moon to the sun has not changed much since landing.

So the Moon to us appears to be going from East to West when it is visible, but that is due to the fact that the Earth is rotating under it. It is sitting out there basking in the Sunshine with a slow orbit of about a MOOONTH, so the sun will shine at the same angle on the same area for quite a while.
