I think they are facing larger issues. For whatever reasons, sending up more suits might not be possible.

The systems that allow coming/going crafts might not be operational. As they had to shut down lots of stuff.

Why they didn't request new suits in AUGUST right after Luca Parmitano drowned????

How many cargo spacecrafts docked with the ISS between this incident and the latest pump failure??
 Quoting: Ford Prefect

Hmmm, that tells me the problem is not the suits. Could be the environment is polluted with micro-dust particles traveling high speeds.

Could be the suits are getting swiss cheesed out there with no protection.

There seems to be a lot of meteors recently. Could reasonably imply there is a lot of dust up there too.

A theory
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

Did you even watch the video with Parmitano drowning during the EVA???
 Quoting: Ford Prefect

No, not that one. Any reasons they give are in one ear, out the other. I don't trust NASA for nothing.

Just watched again, I noticed the contaminates, they don't imply to know where it came from.

Space dust penetrating space suits!!!!

Since the Ion filter was saturated, it is possible these contaminates are charged, highly charged particles.

I almost forgot to mention the Russian guy who hijacked NASA comm link during the conference and started disrupting the woman who asked about the leaking issue in the suits.

Asteroids/Comets/Meteors are inbound. Even Karl Battams admits that there will be small shooting stars as a result of ISON. Since NASA didn't grind these dusts from ISON into very fine material themselves, I want to presume that the Astronauts in the ISS won't be left up there to face the potential risk of an impact from one of the "FINE DUSTS" from ISON that just happens not to have been ground properly.

Would NASA keep astronauts up there knowing that asteroids/meteors/comets etc. are inbound?

Also, if NASA had to bring the astronauts home under the guise of a fault on ISS or any other excuse they can dream up, that means that they aren't going to tell the world that something is coming from space.

So, how does NASA and the PTB save face and hide all the inbound asteroids/meteors/comets? Or more appropriately, what resembles asteroids/meteors/comets with trails? Did you say missiles and rockets?

Now you know why propaganda of a war with China, NK etc are on the rise!

I don't blame them for being paranoid about the helmet leak issue, that is some scary shit, dude could have died.

Bringing a corpse back down from the ISS would be... pretty grim to say the least.

I was pretty cavalier about the pump leak when it happened, but they're under a bit of pressure now I suspect what with the suit issue on top of this.

I think this EVA expedition will be more tense than many of us thought.

And how do you know the EVAs are dangerous? Simply based on the theatrics we are watching now? How do you know this is not all an act? After all we watch stuff like this in movies. What makes you think this is not staged and that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the EVAs and all this is just to build up a frame work or an excuse to have the astronauts be returned home? Do you trust NASA with your life?

An excuse has to be made for the astronauts to leave the ISS. You are probably watching this. ISON is dead? Ok I can agree with you. But I presume your idea about this came from this [link to s190.photobucket.com] but what if NASA had shown you this [link to s190.photobucket.com] ? Would you still think ISON died?

Because they've had to delay the Antares resupply launch until after this is done, and if the other coolant loop should experience a problem and shut down, then it's time to evacuate the station. Not a good day. The problem is manageable right now, but it leaves them with no redundancy in case of another coolant problem. It's a rather complicated job to fix it too, requiring multiple spacewalks, so this isn't something you can just do on a whim if further problems start to develop. In the best traditions of NASA fashion, they have come up with a simple but innovative series of work-arounds to keep Hopkins safe in case the water system in his suit leaks again.

Well, if it's any consolation the hot blonde chick is no rookie in EVAs:

Bolinger, Allison

Allison Bolinger joins her first analog mission unlike any other rookie as a crewmember.

Allison started at Johnson Space Center as a cooperative education student from Purdue University in 2001. After earning her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 2004, she has worked full-time as an instructor and flight controller in the Extravehicular Activities (EVA) group within the Mission Operations Directorate. She brings with her real-time EVA experience, including leading the 4 spacewalks conducted on STS-134, the final flight of space shuttle Endeavour in May 2011. Outside of work Allison enjoys running, crafting, traveling and spending time with her husband and their 2 dogs.
