How come female singers cant match this today ?

How many 'muscians' today can even play an instrument? The rhythm machines, recycled samples, lack of melody and harmonies... yuck.

she wasnt the "best looking" female singer of all time ...whatever "best looking" means ...but i would marry her in a heart beat. She has so much soul.

She is one of the few female singers that could sing to my soul and make me cry. maybe the ONLY one. She had oceans and oceans of soul.

There's no shortage of other soulful singers. I like Eva Cassidy, Bonnie Rait, Betty Carter... all of them could match Joplin.

What about Carole King? She ranks up there with Janis in my opinion.

Well, im pretty sure that any female singer can grab a mic and scream her lungs out at it if she wanted to. But I dont think they would make as much money as they would dancing like corner whores. Just my guess.

This woman was on a wholeeee different level. She is out of this world. This woman cornered the market on soul in female singers as far as i am concerned.

Pat Benetar was great to but she is in a distant second place on my list.

Saw Janis at the Fillmore twice while still in high school. Her band (Big Brother) was awful.

She did not impress me as a singer, but she was a pretty good performer.

My favorite female vocalist at the time was Mavis Staple.

Are you crazy ???? it was not 'screaming" with Janis ...that woman was pouring her heart and soul out to the audience. That takes guts and soulfulness.

It's not all the electronic gizmoes that make modern music bad (I love good electronica) it's the fact that main stream music is treated like a freaking "product" designed to generate profit and appeals to the average brownwashed mush mind that cuts you off in traffic. Music is no longer "art", it is a comodity.

After reading your other thread and then this one. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder applies to music as well. Beauty is in the ears. I would argue that Aretha Franklin was the ultimate female vocalist. My point being, it's different for everyone.

Eva is smooth ...smooth is ok ...to each their own i guess...but i want RAWW i want heart on the floor and tears and just flat out raw. That is more of my style ...But like i said to each their own.

Janis is raw. hard core soul. Eva is ok though ..nothing wrong with her.

Pat Benatar had a powerful set of lungs on her ..and she had soul to ...not Janis's soul but she had soul.

About Big Brother and the Holding Company, they weren't virtuosos at all, or even very skilled musicians. They were still great, though. The arrangements for those songs are so sparse, there's not a lot of playing going on. But that's what leaves so much room for Janis' voice, and actually makes it sound bigger.

I had a feeling i would willow. I was curious....i will listen to the other songs.




What i miss is the soul ....Janis had so much soul ...she was not ashamed of letting everyone know how much she was hurting ...There was no shame of feelings in Janis ...i have a feeling many female singers today have shame of feelings ....so they sing cutsie to not let anyone know the pain they have experienced in their lives ...IF they experienced any at all. When a woman can sing with NO shame about her pain that to me is pure beauty.

I can't look at your links because I have dialup. It would take me until next wednesday to watch a video online. Some of us are not as wealthy as others here.

But I assure you that Big Brother was not a good band. Realize that when I was growing up, I saw live bands like Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Electric Flag, with Mike Bloomfield, Cream, with Eric Clapton, Mothers of Invention, with Frank Zappa, and so on.

Big Brother could not hold a candle to these folks.

Janis ...i am talking about Janis....Janis had the most soul out of any female singer ever ....from what i have heard. No female singer ever moved me like Janis.

But overall Jimi Hendrix is my favorite artist of all time. yea im a big Jimi fan.

Pink Floyd is second ...they are my second favorite ..i was never a eric clapton fan ...something about him really bugs me ..and so does frank zappa.
