Stay warm Bear! It sucks to be without power during the winter, so I'll keep my fingers crossed yours stays on. Merry Christmas. Stay warm and safe. The ice storms circled around to the east coast. This is terrible news. Sending prayers. The Devil tries to convince everyone he doesn't exist. The state tries to convince everyone they cannot resist. Do not go quietly into the good night. Rage Rage against the dying light! |

I am OK for now and have back up for heat and cooking. Lots of inventory on hand. Others may not be so lucky. This happened a few years ago and brought down transmission lines because of the weight of ice on them. [link to www.youtube.com] |

Quoting: Bear Drinker [link to www.youtube.com] Reminds me of a book I once read : The Coming Global Superstorm by Art Bell (of Coast to Coast fame) and Whitney Streiber (Communion Guy). The movie The Day after Tomorrow was based on the book. I remember it being a reasonable explanation for the findings of ice age mammoths flash frozen with intact plants in their stomaches and other inexplicable findings contrary to the current scientific paradigms. The scenario began with "global warming" affecting the usual oceanic currents by affecting the temperature and salinity of the currents, especially the Gulf Stream. It basically would quickly put much of the US and northern Europe under snow and ice. One terrible Winter leading to the next, without the usual Summer melts and warming. Bummer. ***** |

Bummer. ***** As far as I know, without using the all-mighty Google, if an area has snow or ice on it by natural means, then it is considered to be in an ice age. A slight tilt of the Earth, pole reversal, sun cooling etc may cause it and it would happen quickly. |

We have had freezing rain and snow for over 36 hours now and counting. Many people are losing power. I'm still ticking but just in case... Quoting: Bear Drinker Merry Christmas to All! - 350,000 without power in Ontario, including 250,000 in Toronto - Tens of thousands without power in Quebec, thousands in New Brunswick - Flights cancelled, delayed at airports from Toronto to St. John's - No streetcar service in Toronto - Bad weather may end as soon as early afternoon, as late as Monday, depending on region [link to www.cbc.ca] I'm usually not sympathetic to Canadians because they pronounce their OUs kind of funny but it sounds like you guys are having a real shit storm up there so I'll give you a break. You know what? I hope you fellas fare well this winter. Please take care of yourselves and I hope you the best this Holiday season. Perhaps, we can rag on each other come spring time. Ay? |

I was thinking about you earlier, hoping you're doing okay. Glad you're able to stay warm, dry, and in touch :). Thought I'd share short vid from '98. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s5MQrNeD04 We've still got ice storm warnings posted until noon today, so far my area has been very lucky. Just south of the ice line, thankfully. Be careful if you have to venture out today, my friend :). *Edit. Can't get that stupid vid to work, gonna go fling my mouse out the front door now. Grrrr... We finally got our power again this morning. My parents who live a rural area have had no water or power since Friday night. We are hoping by Christmas they will have it. A lot of trees down, really sad to see. |

Friends in Toronto are told they will not have power until Christmas Day. The power is so random here. My step sister who lives not even 2 minutes away is still with out power. With the winds they are calling for and snow now, I am sure we will have more power outages before the week is over. |
