Yeah its real mess here. Walmart, McDonalds and Tim Hortons have been the big winner of this mess, Well at least the ones that are able to open.

Some Major intersections no Traffic lights. Some people aren't making it a 4 way stop. Should be Traffic Cops directing traffic, but i guess this is there way of saying they need more $$$ in their budget to hire more cops.

Alot of the roads up until yesterday had a thick sheet of ice along them.

At night/morning around my area, East Scarborough / Pickering it's complete Darkness. Our little pocket has power but others around us don't.

We lost power for about 24hrs and it turned back on yesterday at 2:30am.

Stay Safe everyone.

I'm hearing its fucking mayhem in Scarborough hour line wait to anything that's open, those places are making a killing.

Yeah some places are ridiculous........... Some lines stretch onto the Sidewalk

Re: 200K+ Without Power In Toronto Going on 72hrs Most likely no power until this weekend.
My Aunt and Uncle who are in Scarborough just got in to a car accident because some of the roads were still slicked. They have no power. My parents are North Pickering (Claremont), which was badly hit and rural and were just told by the end of the weekend. We are North Oshawa, but even pockets here have no power. One parent who lives in a high-rise in East York, still has no power.

The hydro companies have stated they are trying to get larger pockets of people up before they deal with individual homes, so depending on where you are located , who knows when you will be up and running again.

The Tards who make those comments about not being prepared don't seem to understand you can't do much in a high-rise, other than try to find a warming centre or another place to stay. Most hotels are completely booked from people staying there to stay warm.

There have already been a few deaths from people trying to stay warm bringing bbq's into their home and dying from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Another part of a family who did have a generator placed it in their attached garage, not realizing that the Carbon Monoxide leaked into the home killing two of the family members and sending the rest to hospital.

There are trees still falling from the weight of the ice. With the temperature getting colder it isn't helping. They are also calling for more wind and snow, which means even more damage. It is fuk'd here.

Re: 200K+ Without Power In Toronto Going on 72hrs Most likely no power until this weekend.
Rob Ford hasn't done shit. He was MIA all Sunday morning and only got briefed by staff 5 minutes before the press conference. He didn't want to declare a state of emergency because that would have meant giving up his power, even probably close to a million people didn't have heat/electricity. (300 000 customers = at least 750 000 to 100 000 since one customer could be an apartment building with 1000 people in it, or a family of five.

Also Ford has no idea what a state of emergency is. He thought the whole city would shut down...not transit and the KanyeWest concert would be cancelled. Lol he is such a moron.

Luckily the Deputy mayor (who is mostly in charge now) bypassed Ford and started working with the premier to get extra personnel/crews/supplies.

Re: 200K+ Without Power In Toronto Going on 72hrs Most likely no power until this weekend.
Just got power back to my house (Pickering) after being out since 2am on Sunday. My house was 42C (5F) this morning, and thankfully I've been at work on a backup generator for my servers. As serious as this is, I can only laugh at my situation as I happened to be watching Star Trek: Into Darkness when all of a sudden.... DARKNESS happened. However that said, this is a bad situation for all.

I feel very bad for the elderly and the young as they are most vulnerable to the cold. However, that said, we must remember that we live in Canada and it gets very cold here, and we must be prepared for the worst at any point in time. I blame myself for not being prepared for this, and going forward will start to get my preps in order. I still have family and friends out, and we have attempted to get them into our house for warmth and the ultimate Christmas movie, Die Hard! But, some won't. That's fine. Tomorrow they may change their mind as they will be down anyways.

There is no point in getting mad at the city or hydro workers, as I'm very thankful for the work that they are performing to get everyone back to the comforts that we are "used" to. Massive thanks to those working, and still working on this issue. Hell, they are even flying others in out of province to help out. They must be commended on that, as they are giving up their Christmas and families to help out.

This is a learning lesson to be prepared, and I hope those that had no power learn from this, as I have. Those that had power, maybe another time, or perhaps that they too will learn. Stay safe and warm folks.

Damn this guy must be a foreigner, cannot possibly be a real Canadian whining like a third worlder when it's not even particularly cold. Boohoo no electricity, see it as training gift for when lights go out all over the world from some EMP attack or general SHTF-doom.

It's good training and should build character.

And those that killed themselves with the indoors bbq:ing are most likely third world savages, happens basically every year here some of them kill themselves by grill. Death by bbq.

One time they managed to burn down an entire house, that ones insane and they actually survived that one just with the loss of a house.

Actually you gearbox, I live right on a bay and grew up playing hockey till we couldn't see the puck because it was so damn dark. Skates hard as a rock and toes so numb that I could walk on tacks and not feel pain. The cold doesn't bother me one bit as I need a hot cloth to shut my window because my bedroom window is open in the winter. Literally ice is jammed the window open.

Actually, yes, I did finish the movie and was prepared to go play a playoff hockey game in the morning, and then train at my gym after. But, sadly, they were both closed and I hung out with the family. Thanks for jumping to conclusion like the typical keyboard warrior you seem to be.

My life doesn't get put on hold because of this shit, but I can see that others can't handle this type of event. Is that my problem. Nope, not at all. But at least I can appreciate the work of others to get those in need to a comfortable state of mind.

Im starting to think you might be right about that.

Something similar happened here a few years back. The gf and i were stuck in our apartment, no fireplace. We cleared the living room, put up the tent, we rationed, lived like settlers and fucked like bunnies for days. It was AWESOME. We didnt wait for others to help. We did what we had to do to survive, and it wasnt that hard. Must be the pioneer dna we inherited.

Fuck, didnt we all learn how to make igloos when we were young? What about you OP?

In fact youre not really canadian until you get frostnip ear swelling at least once and learn how to deal with the cold. Fingers so cold, the only way to warm them is to stick them in your armpits.

My life doesn't get put on hold because of this shit, but I can see that others can't handle this type of event. Is that my problem. Nope, not at all. But at least I can appreciate the work of others to get those in need to a comfortable state of mind.

Here is where you should stop posting, because your stupidity, as evident by your grammar, really shows.

Most of the shit that you say, I agree with you, yet you have failed to realize that by reading my post. People are soft like Cottonelle nowadays, and yes, they are dependent on the grid for power. If this was a rural area, things would be different, but it's not. So, I'm thankful that these crews are out here, because like you stated earlier, there are savages out there willing to put others at risk by attempting to keep warm. The faster they get the grid up, the faster those people prevent the chaos that they are willing to create for themselves, and possibly others.

You want to play hockey tomorrow? How about boxing day? Come meet me on the bay, and bring a helmet so you don't lose a tooth when the "Gordie" special hits your chin when you try to grab the puck of me. Or, will you be joining those that you mock at your nearest shopping mall to be culled.

Hell, I'll even bring the beer. 5a
