No, not offended, I thought it was funny too. I wish I could have retained the memory of when I was born and he held the gun to my mother's head during another one of his drunk episodes. Just seeing the look on her face is all I want to remember.

But other than that, my grandfather was actually a peculiar fellow. Not only did he escape the holocaust, when he died a 6 year old witness saw his body be flown out the window of his house with a dove on each shoulder.
 Quoting: nah

Many folks do not realize that the Orthodox and intelligentsia were also rounded up by the Nazi's.

My Father and his parents spent the last 6-months of WWII in a Nazi camp in Italy.
 Quoting: wisc_natureboy

Most of my family disappeared but my grandfather literally jumped off the train and walked back home. When he was confronted by Nazi soldiers he convinced them he was one of them because he began to speak German fluently and took off his hat to show them he has the same hair cut as the soldiers.

My grandmother was Orthodox and married into the family and they were very mean to her because she wasn't Jewish. My grandfather was raised by a nasty Jewish step mother because his Orthodox mother died when he was a baby. They kept trying to break the curse by marrying Orthodox women.

Before my grandmother died she told me not to marry a rich Jewish man, best advice anyone ever gave me.

All I know is that that side of the family moved into Macedonia in the early 1300's, we still have the original deed to our house there that we got in 1307 to be exact.

My husband on the other hand has been there for thousands of years because they still have their house in the village. Here's a picture of the sheep that sleep in the house to keep it warm on the cold nights.

It is a good idea so there is a record for the upcoming generations otherwise precious information is lost.

Or even what you could do is record it if that is easier for you.

Make an audio recording of the family traditions and memories. hugs

I agree.

Changing the name of our celebration of Jesus' birth
irritates the hell out of me.

It is a slap in the face worse than 'Happy Holidays'.
 Quoting: wisc_natureboy

I'm starting to feel all insecure about saying Happy Holidays! Geez. Only since reading GLP stuff. Yes I love and believe in Christmas, but what's so bad about saying HH? I say it meaning wishing that whole few weeks are nice for folks. Everyone is so . . .

You know I really liked the store at Cracker Barrel and their collard greens. That was a restaurant I enjoyed going to when I lived in the states, for the sociological observations I was able to make as their collard greens. :)

Well funny you should ask. You caught me at a very vulnerable moment. Just phoned parents to say I'm not getting on the flight tomorrow - lots of changes in my life - and will enjoy with friends here in Santa Fe in a non traditional way. Funny my mother understood saying she felt I was pushing it, to get on a plane tomorrow.

Just breathe . . . and thank you for asking dear Una.

Aw that is nice. Thank you Sloane.

I am just having a quiet break between my summer semester university classes. Peace and quiet by myself. My kids are all overseas this year. I just sat my final coding exam yesterday and am awaiting the results. Likely I will get them sometime today our professor is very good at getting marks back to us promptly.

I only ever had holiday celebrations for the kids when they were little. Since they have grown I don't even bother.

I would much rather give someone I love a present spontaneously during the year, because I love them and saw something I knew they would love - then feel obligated to give something because consumerism says I should feel pressured to.

I fixed your quote! ANY name needs capitalization. And I'm sorry that you have no faith. That you deny the love that He gives... so it doesn't shine in you.

I mean that sincerely, because I know that He IS!
