Scientists create the world's first glow-in-the-dark PIGS after injecting them with jellyfish DNA
•Scientists at South China Agricultural University in Guangdong Province say that the 10 piglets could help them develop cheaper drugs for humans
•Same technique used to create glow-in-the-dark rabbits in Turkey earlier this year, where they are now working to produce fluorescent sheep
Chinese scientists have created the world's first glow-in-the-dark pigs that emit a fluorescent green light.

The piglets acquired their bizarre ability to glow under 'black' or UVA light after their embryos were injected with DNA from a jellyfish.

Experts claim that the 10 young animals should live as long as any other pig and that the findings could help develop cheaper drugs for humans.

"Experts claim that the 10 young animals should live as long as any other pig and that the findings could help develop cheaper drugs for humans."

Those two words are important. It means that This can easily be used for other nefarious reasons, and probably will be.

They ALWAYS use "for the good of humanity" or "To cure such and such" when really they would love to use all of this creepy genetic modification tech for weapons.

mark my words, there are probably horrifying things going behind the scenes and they are giving us the "harmless info" to get us used to genetically modified animals.

Now, which animal is a filthy animal?

What unbelievable ignorance you have about pigs. You must be referring to CAFO lots and the way they are raised; that has nothing to do with the animal which actually is not filthy.

I don't get the reason to make glow in the dark animals? What's the point? Is there some need for it?
I mean it makes no sense to put funding into something like this unless there was an absolute reason for it...
Considering we all have access to sunlight I'd see this as a moot point... unless for some reason we start living underground in bunkers or no longer have access to sunlight...

Actually they're not filthy. They're cleaner than most animals not to mention pretty intelligent( ranked fourth most intelligent creature on Earth).

Dr Stefan Moisyadi, a bioscientist at the University of Hawaii's Institute for Biogenesis Research.

Dr Moisyadi said the animals are not affected by the fluorescent protein and will have the same life span as other pigs.

What great science! We should be thankful and let them genetically modify anything they want including the food we eat without any long term testing. Rest assured that they have the public's best interest in mind.

They did it to make the pigs easier to find as they float down the river at night.

They can winch them in while it is dark that way, before they get to Shanghai and disturb the residents.

***

It also makes a nice pork dish, so diners can spear the goodies out of the chow mein more easily in dimly lit Chinese restaurants.
