Pen Pals

we had that in school too!

we exchanged letters with people from another 5th grade class and then att he end of the year we had a field trip to the local zoo to meet our pen pals face to face. it was awesome!

I guess in today's age with social networking keeping a pen pal isnt as much fun as it used to be.

oh that is pretty neat.

we never met ours.

It becomes a problem when your pen-pal: "Jimmy,future astronaut, 11 yrs old from Washington," turns out to be " Billy-Bob, ex-con, 50 yrs old from Alabama."

When my siblings and I were in 6,7,8th grade (1967/1968)we pen pal with Vietnam soldiers.

I can not remember how many letters we wrote back an forth.

Well we all grew up and moved on.

My younger sister move to NC and had a friend that was a cop. He helped her locate the soldier we wrote back and forth to.

She had since moved back to the Boston area and as it turned out he live on the south shore.

So after maybe 4o years later we set up to meet and have dinner together.

This soldier still had our grammar school photos which he pulled out of his wallet. He told us he never knew who we were because if he were to be captured that the enemy would use the photos against them .

It was awesome to meet and honor him and for him to finally put names with the faces after 40 years.

I do remember. We did that in school too. My wife said they did the pen pal program in school, and she wrote letters to another kid for about 7 years. I think I talked to mine for that one school year, and we both lost interest...lol

7 years...wow she really kept it up.

Yea, I didn't make it 1/7 of that. lol

Dude, yes!!! I had pen pals.
I originally felt FaceBook as a good pen pal place, from all over the world. But then ya know, hearing about people's cats gets a little old. And being the oddball telling people the sky is falling. Ya know.

oh my gut.

I just started my 8 year old doing that. She is so excited. The only problem so far is that we have to check the mail every day now.

She made some friends her age while we were on Christmas break. The kids are not using the internet yet so we got their address and my daughter sent them a note with a SASE. They returned the favor.

Thanks we thought it was really cool that he still had our school photos...after all those years.

I believe my sister is still in contact with him.

i guess you really never know what words can mean to someone even a small gesture when your a million miles away and have never met.

We had a pen pal program in primary school writing letters to American kids. We each wrote a letter telling about our lives and sent in a picture. Now I don't recall precisely but I believe it was a school somewhere hot, maybe Arizona, so I put a picture of me in the snow in the letter.

I think there were a few replies and I remember one, my American drew a picture of a 'baseball', I was like "what's that?" lol.
