Regs state that when coming from mexico ALL aircraft must clear customs at the first airport crossing the border from mexico. Unless you are on an "overfly permit" which are not that hard to do. But!! Aspen DOES NT have customs. This is not the same for flying from canada. You can clear customs at any airport that has customs. Not necessarily closest to border crossing. |

There is a tremendous amount of traffic in and out of the Aspen airport this time of the year. Most private jets have to deliver their passengers and then go to another airport to park because there is not enough ramp space at Aspen airport to accommodate many aircraft. The flight did originate in Mexico with a stop in Tuscon of about an hour and fifteen minutes for customs and probably fuel. Gerry, where did you get your info? The sheriffs dept. I'm staying just down the road from there. Thank you for the info, Gerry. Sounds like what I had thought in the beginning as most celebs seem to usually have a whole gang with them and rarely travel with just flight crew. My sympathies to the families of the person that lost their life and the injured crew. |
