Here. The camps were bad, but that was only after the Germans started losing the war. Once the typhus epidemic hit and the allies bombed the supply lines, the camp death rates went up.

In other words, if they didn't put Jews in camps, there was a very real chance that they would have sabotaged the German war effort.
