It was mainly just a interest I have an interest in pack animals, was also looking into goats which I have owned and cared for before but thought I would look into horses as well and this popped up on my search.

also the horse may be sponsored (food wise)by my employer if it was a real worker.

I've had horses all of my life. That horse looks as sickly as you say it does, and it probably is. See the ribs protruding? It's malnourished. See the thin hair at the top of his tail? He probably has, or did have a worm infestation.It will take an experienced horse person, lots of feed, patience, most likely worming and veterinary calls to get that animal back to a state of good health. That could take months, or even years. If you are getting a horse for the first time, I'd strongly advise you to get a healthy, older, "dead-broke" horse. Don't try to nurse a sickly horse back to health unless you're experienced with horses in general.

exactly! and if you don't know anything about what the coggins test is. ask a vet first an d have him look the records over and make sure they are up to date on everything.
farm calls are expensive.
now if you think you can't do this but you just wanna save an animal, you're thinking wrong.

that' s cuz the owner hasn't exercised him. he wants to get rid of him. he needs to be in a round pen.

That price is crazy. No way...I would look elsewhere. Also, there are better sites available to shop for horses.

If you are thinking about getting a horse take riding lessons or rent time and learn how to ride. A horse is very large. There are larger "ponies" that aren't shetland that adults can ride that are very gentle and pretty inexpensive. Don't EVER get or give moldy hay. Horses have to be groomed a lot. They scare easy, please take the time to learn about them first.

How I learned was 4h. I think the teacher deviated from the normal course and taught from personal experience. You'd think owning and taking care of horses is common sense but it's not. There is a lot to learn, a lot to consider.

it might be a congenital condition,but mainly i think it's if he's that small in front then he doesn't have much quarter horse blood in him either. Morgans have big shoulders, and quarter horse are more stocky. he's weak in the front. his chest is narrow. look at it again. hes got a big hip and no shoulders.

Not what you need if you have never owned a horse. It's not a dog, you can hurt the animal of you dont know about them and they can certainly hurt you for the same reason.

Get to the point where you can buy a horse without asking for advice on where to start and if a horse looks healthy or not.

You do not want to get a stud colt. Terrible place to start. The stud colt is gorgeous. If the colt is not cut he can be allot to handle for even the most experienced persons.

First off, answer is NO to this colt. Lots of reasons.
He's still a stallion, so still needs 'brain surgery' as we horse folk call gelding.

He's not quite two, and he's really butt high. Horses do grow at uneven levels, but he's really, really butt high.

He will be ready to start saddle training at age 2 (I prefer 26-30mo), but not for awhile, since he's a '12. He sure doesn't look big enough, and I'd never start one who is that small. His conformation just isn't that great and if this is a recent picture, he's stunted.

People who don't know how to ride/work horses have no business handling a horse. Especially a young horse. Who must be trained. We call these horses after they are broke to ride 'greenbroke'. The combination of a person who doesn't know how to work horses, plus a green horse, we call 'black and blue'.

Sorry. Every one loves a black/white paint. (well, I don't). But he's not that nice for the money. I don't know anything about APHA breeding (I'm AQHA) but that's a lot for an untrained colt. He's not a trained riding horse who has been proven to be steady and well mannered.

The problem with APHA is that lots of folks just breed for color and leave 'sane' and excellent conformation on the wayside. You need a well built horse so it can stay sound for many years without a lot of upkeep.

I appreciate that you want a horse. I promise you that there are suitable horses out there for you. Keep looking... find a well ridden 10 -15 year old gelding who is advertised as a 'husband horse'.

My only advice on horses is this. Unless you can make money from them, it is far more expeditious, less frustrating and exceedingly cheaper to throw ten thousand dollars in a hole and burn it.

Also, don't buy a horse off Craigslist. Ever.
