I cook this in my crock pot with an onion and one can of DR whatever. When its done, pick out the meat. (reserve fat, bones and some meat) Quoting: moxiechick This will make pork sandwiches, carnitas, and pork fried rice. In your reserve in the same crock pot....pop in another onion, a can of rotel (can use generic) and a bag of 15 bean mix. This is super delish. Very filling, tastes great with cornbread or as a side dish with the carnitas or pulled pork sandwiches. I've gotta try these recipes! Thanks! |

This keeps it from sticking. Add all other ingredients. I use a rice cooker, but for those that use the stove, bring contents to a boil large saucepan or enamel pot and then turn on very lowest setting to steam rice for approx 25-30 mins. Cook a few grains and cool them I use quinoa, kamut and short grained brown rice myself mix in wilted kale (ie. chop it and add a pinch of sugar and enough olive oil to coat it) any veggies you have on hand. add soya sauce and sesame oil if you have any. I add meat sometimes, cubed/cooked, any-critter. It's the only meal I like with tofu (xtra firm, cooked with chilis and paprika until crispy)if there is no meat. Add a handful of sprouts to the bowl and then fry 2 eggs over easy. Add the soft eggs to the top of the serving bowl along with your favourite hot sauce and 'mingle' the yolk/egg whites and sauce with the 'salad' below. It's delicious. And dirt cheap depending on your additives. And it is even better for breakfast (with xtra hot sauce added IMO). |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 51060184 United States 01/14/2014 12:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm getting into using a slow cooker. It makes things like beans a lot easier to cook, you know dried beans are really cheap, but who wants to spend all day cooking them? What I really like is indian food. Lentils are cheap, and so are dried garbanzos, and both are very healthy. I love indian food and have been practicing making it, so I have all of the spices and things, already. That is some tasty food. I recently found out that indian food can be made in a slow cooker. So, there's an ebook I'm going to get that has recipes for all kinds of daal. Also, keep in mind that in some climates you can grow your own kale almost all year round. It's extremely healthy to eat, but expensive to buy from the store. I hear it is really easy to grow. If I were planning on staying where I am, I would build a cold frame and some raised beds. I'd grow kale, and cabbage, and potatoes, etc. Potatoes are pretty cheap at the store, even organic. Sweet potatoes are healthier. I like to just chop one up and fry it in a skillet. Fast, cheap, and tasty. Tonight I made buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese dressing, and it wasn't the cheapest meal, but it was a lot cheaper than eating out. I made the buffalo sauce myself, and it was super easy. You guys need to get on Pinterest, if you aren't already. They have a lot of good recipes on there. |

I get a side of beef and have ample people waiting for the choice bits. Once the choice cuts are sold (at half of grocery store prices) I'm left with a lot of ground and stewing beef. Almost for free. If you have a dozen or so people you know who like great meat and would buy it from you it's a great way to stretch a budget. I've never actually done the math but I think I end up paying about $0.25 a lb for organic, grassfed beef. Mostly the tougher roasts, ribs, liver, ground and stewing meat but hey...it's all good slow cooked. |
