Religions are actually a much needed opposing force to the state, without them, the world would be reduced to a utilitarian hell-hole.
Quoting: K.Kool I believe that's what they want you to think. Look back on world history - almost every great civilization has gone hand in hand with religion. They want you to think that religion and government are opposing forces, much like they want you to think that republicans and democrats are two different teams. They're all playing for the same side, and their purpose is to control you and keep you a slave - a good little slave in fear of secular repercussions for your choices in this life and religious repercussions in the next. It's a good scheme. Hmmm well...the reality I observe in our current world is that religion is being systematically undermined, along with its moral guidelines, in favour of a more homogenized society. Religion insists on the fundamental freedom of the individual soul, while government tries to secede individual rights for the sake of group functionality. It's a popular idea, this one of religion being all about control, and it gets repeated over and over, to me suspiciously over and over...
