when sea/ice melts it adds minerals/materials to the weight of the sea water solution, until complete saturation or supersaturation occurs
meaning no more minerals/materials will fit into the water solution...
rock candy is a example of supersaturation of a solution, sugar would be the solute, water would be the solvent that dissolves the sugar until supersaturation occurs, which in that case becomes a solid sheet of....candy
