Health News: Flu virus replicates FASTER if you take fever reducer
If you've got a cold or the flu and have a fever, stay the fuck home please. Research suggests that taking fever reducers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and what not actually INCREASE the replication of the virus. While this is beneficial for the person with the flu, it can actually make the virus spread faster to others if your body temperature is lowered.

"When you've got the flu, it can't hurt to take an aspirin or an ibuprofen to control the fever and make you feel better, right? Wrong, some scientists say. Lowering your body temperature may make the virus replicate faster and increase the risk that you transmit it to others. A new study claims that there are at least 700 extra influenza deaths in the United States every year because people suppress their fever."

"As a result, if you have the flu and you're taking medication "it may actually be more important that you stay at home because you could be a greater risk to others," says David Earn, a mathematician at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, and one of the authors of the paper. Some scientists call that claim premature, however."

Here's an interesting scientific paper published by the Royal Society that suggests that an EXTRA 700 people per year die in the United States because of fever reducing medication.

Actually, a fever is the body's way of killing the virus. A virus can't live above a certain heat and that is why a fever is produced.
Suppressing it is counterproductive. Just don't let it get above 104 in adults.
Also, although a cold drink feels good on a sore throat, a hot drink kills more viruses.
When I have a sore throat, I sometimes put a heating pad on my throat.

Unless the fever is in a danger zone, leave it be. I understand taking some medicine when one has to work. But staying home and off the meds is the best thing for colds and flu.
