Sometimes I think I am one of the adopted humans on this planet and not of the same gene pool. Not that I'm perfect by any means...but I just find it impossible to understand such horrific cruelty and the ability to do it. I mean what drives a man to be so damned cruel?? I'm a woman and I ask this question sincerely to the men on this thread. And I have survived an extremely abusive past. So I don't think it's a good excuse to say that men can be like this because of abuses they have suffered.

this is saying that a man should take responsibility by marrying the woman he made to lie with him. i am not saying i agree with it, exactly. but it is for the ancient world, for one thing, and it is not really saying it's a-o.k. to rape.

the man must pay the woman's father quite a bit of money, then he must marry her (which means he assumes responsibility for her) and he CANNOT divorce her. because he's violated her, he must take what she will give as a wife which might be nothing. and, by the way, if he were to commit adultery on her, then he would get into trouble for that.

so... do you see this is not an endorsement of rape? i kind of wonder if they are talking about a guy who was courting the girl (or however they called it) and got carried away. i am not condoning such behavior. but i am saying i do not think this is talking about the kind of situation we see in this case with the individuals who gang raped a little old lady.

but, the verse you gave is not used in order to write laws. it is a law ancient Jewish people lived by a LONG time ago. the laws of the state of Colorado are not based on Deuteronomy.

I am wondering about this Deanna Stoker... Sometimes people who do not speak to the police do speak to a rape counselor. So, this 74% increase cannot be due to "community support" of victims because, I would hope, the rape counseling center was ALWAYS supportive. and the 74% can't be about "reporting it" since talking to a counselor is not the same thing as going to the police.

If Deanna Stoker is seeing a 74% increase in victims.. it's a real 74% increase. i don't see how it can be anything other than that.

and i hope she is not the only person they have to talk to because her choice of the word "wonderful" considering the subject matter is concerning.

this being said, an increase as high as 74% even if you consider the strictest measure... going to the police and being willing to testify in court.. it's still going to represent a very large increase in victims. i would guess at least a 50% increase, but that's an educated guess.

for one thing, some of the victims would need medical assistance. therefore, they'd go to the hospital and they'd have to tell the doctor what happened.
