We bought this new fireplace I want to tell you about....
It's made by JOTUL, A Norwegian cast iron freestanding fireplace. It weighs a ton being cast iron and it's really well made. We just had it installed two weeks ago and I just can't believe the heat it throws out!! It heats our entire upstairs of our home fast. It is absolutely perfect if you have a smaller home or area that you would like to put in a fireplace.

What is so cool about it is you can install it just about anywhere you want, even in the center of a room because it's finished all the way around. It's got a 3 sided view too, so it can accommodate two rooms like we did.

It comes in both, natural gas and wood heat and I just loved the size of it! But the fact that it performs really well is the best news! It comes with a built in fan too, so you can pump that heat out fast and warm up lots of square footage.

Here's the website by JOTUL, I lucked out and found a dealer right here in Saskatchewan. It's an approved appliance in Canada and the USA! Bonus!

Here's pics where we installed it:

We opened up the wall to our sunroom, wanted to heat it with this fireplace.

:FP4:

Doesn't take up much room at all! We opened up our kitchen, living room and sunroom to be able to heat it all easily now.
:FP1:

:FP2:

:FP9:

:FP10:

:FP6:

From the sunroom, you can see how it's finished.
:FP3:

We hid the hardware under the tile base.

:FP7:

:FP8:

It's an awesome fireplace!!!!

Here's the same fireplace installed in the center room of someones place.

Jotul rocks...I lived with my wife and 2 children in a yurt for 3 years and jotul was our choice of woodstove and we never went cold. Awesome tech. Now I prefer the thermal mass rocket stoves though.

Looks good. I need something like that but I want a quiet fan on it too to really pump out the heat.

Did you have to sell all your furniture to pay for it? Didn't see any place to even sit down except for the floor!

Get a thermal fan no power and blows harder as the heat increases. They are about $50.00 and well worth it. For OP's scenario I'd buy 2 to spread the heat all over.

Should have made it a straight pipe all the way up because you will have to keep dismantling the pipe to properly clean it every time you sweep the chimney....Which should be done once a month....Don't believe that "once a year crap"!

Thanks, our home is cozy, just the way I like it! It's been a work in progress since 1998. As we could afford it!

Yes, we did get the natural gas version, nice thing about it though is it is easily converted to wood, same stove.

We had 2 welded on the sides of our jotul and 1 on top since the tops of ours didn't have much surface area. They 10x the heat in a room easily.

That's really cool. $3800 is pretty high but it's unique

Even the cheap steel inserts cost about 3k so it's probably worth it for cast iron

Hello from Gods own county (Yorkshire)

Being a Yorkshire man I think you have paid over the odds BUT as Yorkshire folk are tighter than Scotts men with money I will let that one pass.

One of the most brilliant things I have seen in the USA are the old colonial chimney stacks built at the END of the building.

I do NOT understand the attraction of your system.
LOTS of money spent on attractiveness, why not just build on a grate and chimney ??

I like the freestanding stove. It can be difficult to find attractive stoves for modern style homes, usually they have a more traditional style.

Looks great, Kate, and toasty warm.

I suppose people in the Northern part of this country are going to have to consider such if our winters continue to be this bad.

I also notice the low ceiling you have and suspect that helps. Here in the South, we so often have high ones because the houses are built more to endure the heat rather than the cold.
One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?. . .J. Handy
