Military is all over it, solar solves part of the energy logistics issue. . You can't use solar to power submarines, tanks or Humvees. Solar power will always be a libtard's pipe dream. If it is high altitude, the Drone is subject to freezing temperatures, UV radiation, and can't maneuver worth a shit because of having such a high stall speed. Might as well use a unmanned balloon -- they can go up to 170,000 ft, hover for more than 55 days with no radar cross-section detectable by the enemy. . |

Unfortunately you have to build it yourself. About the only commercial product is made in China, a hot water heater vacuum insulated and selective coating. Photovoltaics have their place as well. When the grid goes down you would like to have some. Government is a body largely ungoverned. |

The limitations in energy storage alone would make this a impossibility with current technologies. Perhaps, the drone will utilize air currents to try and gain altitude. But once again, this is a hit or miss thing. We cannot "see" the wind. Even with "modern technology" we cannot see it. We still launch balloons to check direction and speed. This is one of those "flying car" type articles explaining what COULD happen in the future with perfect conditions. My money is still on smart dust. |

Chilling ? We are very close to having drones by the tens of thousands at any given time at any location. "Self aware" ? some punk sipping a tepid starbucks super double latte with an orange twist is lining you up and ......POOF ! SPLAT..... Listen up, these drones are coming. All countries are working on this. How many drones can China crank out in 12 months ? How many drone pilots could China produce in 12 months ? They could start them young and select the best drone pilots from millions. The drones are a huge wild card coupled with NSA satelites that know what you had for dinner last week. GPS nat's ass mapping and target access. Sky NET is here. |

Before I had a cell phone, say 1993 or so... I watched the Goodyear Blimp try and land at the Memphis International Airport. At NIGHT, AS A STORM FRONT WAS ROLLING IN. The damned thing (I kid you not) Flipped over like a football at kickoff. The front actually blew it away from the approaching storm and I believe they headed for Jackson, TN and landed there? |
