To say I'm excited would be an understatement.

I'm a very novice player. Started taking lessons due to my "mid-life crisis". I'm practicing two to four hours per day...more on weekends. I will master this art. Now, I have a sweet tool to help me along. I'm so pissed at myself for waiting so long to learn this skill.

I used to run long distances (10-20 miles) for "therapy". In my late teens and twenties, I ran 75 to 100 miles each week. I ran just about every morning, and every evening. Since my injury, I'm unable to run. About the best I can do now is a fast jog. Nothing has been able to fill that void...Nothing...Until now. Playing the guitar is even more therapeutic than the running.

Anyway...just wanted to share. Interested to hear from other players, if any, on the board. I like metal, hard rock, and sometimes a little blues.

Currently working on Dream Theater - Pull Me Under...one of my all time favorite songs. I want to be able to play the rhythm and lead.

Next up.....Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss

Accept - Princess of the Dawn (another one of my favorite songs ever - must learn this)

Love these guys - Ramstein - Keine Lust

And this - KAMELOT - March Of Mephisto

Pop Evil - Trenches

Deal With The Devil

IN THIS MOMENT - Adrenalize (Yes...I'm in love )

Avantasia - Angel of Babylon - Symphony of Life

The End Of Innocence - Symphony X (Simply Epic - If only I could sweep pick...soon, very soon)

Not sure I understand the first question...

On "theory/scales etc",...yes, some, but I'm still learning. I never had a music class in school. I didn't even know how to read music prior to starting a few months ago.

My instructor has a degree in music (guitar). I never understood how someone could go to college to study a musical instrument. It didn't take long to understand. I never knew there was so much to know, and master.

LOL. Thanks for your opinion. Unfortunately, I don't "FB". Don't worry. I'm sure my little thread will be buried on page 28 before too much longer.

Thanks for the comment though!hf

Looks like a nice guitar.

I finally bought an American Standard strat a couple of years ago, and even now i just can't believe how good it is! The feel of it, and the resonance when you curl a blues note. just gorgeous!

I can stick it in the washing machine and it will still be in tune when i get it out! just beautiful and made my other guitars obsolete.

I love the American Strats. Not cheap though...lol. The MIM is nice also. I want a HSH Deluxe one day. If I ever have $2,500 to play with, I may get one.

Thanks!

I recently picked up a 1972 Fender Super Six amp for pennies on the dollar.

Needs the filter caps in the power supply replaced ( buzzes horribly ) but it is loud enough to peel paint.

Re: Any guitar players on the board? Take a break from DOOM
I used to run/jog a lot too.

I started a number of years ago as a hobby that didn't cost too much money, and would not destroy my knees, ankles and body.

I don't have much real talent, but with hard work I'm able to crunch out some pretty cool tunes.

Lately I've been learning plectrum style nylon acoustic songs, and I've discovered it's a pretty good way to practice and entertain others.

With a couple of guitars, a "camping" guitar and a pretty decent nylon acoustic you can be pretty entertaining for others.

You can toss it in your car, go camping, visit friends, and fap out a couple of tunes.

I have several electric guitars Strat style, and a cluster of gadgets, and amps. With all of the electronics and wires and power supplies it gets to be a kind of hassle now?

I just recently learned "Everybody's Got a Home but Me"? A song from a Broadway Musical or something?

It fits the times we live in?

Stick with it...

I started out with metal and rock. Thought I was hot shit until I went to a little guitar shop where the old man was giving lessons. I showed him my technical skill and felt really good. Then he says, let me show you this. He then proceeds to play these ragtime fingerstyle songs. I was blown away. I left very, very humbled. Been playing fingerstyle and classical style guitar ever since.

Re: Any guitar players on the board? Take a break from DOOM
I wouldn't recommend any kind of Schecter under the $1000 range. Not good at all for leads. I'd invest in a PRS or ESP, they both make sweet guitars
