Do they still use the "count to 100" test?

Good for you. I am drinking an extra beer tonight just to celebrate your exam. Maybe I'll have another after this one.

OB = Baby/Delivery

Been a doctor for years never heard of a mat exam for med-surg or OB,
Where are you doing your residency?

It's Medication Math.. Every semester the nursing students have to do Med Math calculations and be 100% proficient to ensure safe drug/dose calculations.
I'm not sure if it's like that at all nursing schools.

Re: I passed my Medication Math exam for Med-Surge and OB.
Drs arent the ones preparing and mixing the meds. Nurses have to know their math.

Everytime I hear someone going into OB, I always remember what this old Nurse told me once. She got out of OB and I asked her why....
Crouches, she said, crouches thats all you ever see.
made me lol.

Exactly. That's why it's SOO SOO Important.
Nurses are the last security measure for properly administering safe medication.
Patient Safety comes FIRST. :D

Lol, well I'm not going into OB. It's just while in nursing school you go through all the clinical rotations.
I'll probably end up working in Acute care at a hospital.
Don't know if I could handle ER. LOL

Do they still use the "count to 100" test?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51452294

Hardly anyone uses that anymore as they no longer use gas to initiate anesthesia.

IV induction via propofol is the standard and it's so fast acting there's no need to have patients "count to 100"

I guess its gone over your head.

Nursing maths should be no different than everyone math.

Its a sad state of affairs when basic math is taught at college level courses.
Ratios, fractions, proportions are required to be functional as a frikken homemaker.
Or at least it used to be so.

Maybe that's the problem.
