Massive pileup on I-65.

One of the worst I have ever seen. Goes on and on.

More like October through May and that's not as long as it is here in the Northeast so stop talking Colohole!!!!

The NE is lame. I've been in snow and ice storms from manitoba to texas and the south gets it the worst. Period.

Actually the NE does cause once a storm hits the Atlantic...BOOM it's turns into a monster and what u guys get r seeds of the storm so really I think your definition of worse is 2-4 inches of snow and .2 inches of ice!

My definition of worse is by overall experience. Slush on ice with street tires and bad management.

I've had a car buried overnight in canada and a 4x4 frozen to the ground in a garage at -40.

Also been in NE blizzards, they really are tame.

I really don't think we southerners are as vulnerable to cold weather as others might think. I remember a winter morning in 1984 when I awoke in my Georgia home near Rome, GA and noted that it was fifteen degrees below zero F. There were plenty of bursted pipes in homes, but no frozen water mains.

Not they didn't. My Alabama route employee called me first thing Monday AM to let me know he wasn't working until Friday because of the weather forecast - he didn't want to be out on the roads. He knew. Anyone who got stuck is an idiot.

I don't get it either.

Obviously they aren't prepared and didn't have the salt, the trucks, and everything else needed. It's not because they can't handle snow, it's because they weren't prepared to handle that kind of weather and didn't have the resources needed. People in Massachusetts, etc. are obviously ready and expect this. Why is this hard to understand?

Perhaps they're apologizing because it's better than calling their viewers morons.

"Even places as far south as Tallahassee, Valdosta, and Panama City will likely get a period of light freezing rain late Tuesday night and/or Wednesday Morning....This means that temperatures could be near freezing in portions of South AL and GA Tuesday afternoon, resulting in freezing rain a little earlier than previously thought."

Duh, that forecast is way off. A period of light freezing rain, near freezing..and wrong location.

Just admit they messed up. They admitted it, why can't you? So you can get off on blaming people?

I don't think anyone saw it coming. I'm sure the schools wouldn't have taken even a little risk of dealing with the backlash from parents I'm sure they're facing. It's more than just a few people driving when they shouldn't. People are camped out in grocery store aisles, sleeping in their cars and classrooms.

DUH! Yes, they predicted it would be in SOUTH AL and GA hugging the coast but it came over a hundred miles farther NORTH than predicted! You do know where Birmingham is, don't you, if you have a route or whatever there? Alabama is a pretty big state, donchaknow?

We had possible flurries predicted up here and ended up with a sheet of ice in places.

Yeah, it's bad for Alabama. This isn't Idaho, where anything under nine inches doesn't bother people too much.

I actually was happy for the three inches today. I thought my $700 investment in studded snows was going to waste.

The temperature at my house right now is 2 degree, it is cold I hope this is as low as it goes.

I am in central AL. Birmingham isn't to faraway, the temperature could be lower.

Crazy. My bro has a place up here in Mullan, and he works oil refineries, latest gig in Lake Charles. Lake Charles was colder than Mullan. Unreal.

We had a low of 5º last night but don't know what the chill factor was.

I did finally hear from my missing son and he had to walk about 6 miles in the ice and snow and cold.

I hope he doesn't have frost bite from that! He seems pretty much in shock.

Said it was a complete breakdown of civilization--rather dramatic I know but can understand how he would feel that way after going through all that.

I didn't think to ask where he left his car and wonder now how he will get back to it.

High this afternoon is supposed to be 40º but then it will refreeze overnight. Hope some of that ice eva[orates.

Good to here your sons safe. Five degrees is cold, really cold. Up here in Pennsylvania it's zero. Not a lot of difference from your temp. When it goes up to forty, it's going to feel like a heat wave. LOL!

I'll take it if only for a couple of hours.

Just hope it doesn't thaw so it all refreezes as black ice.

I'm much more concerned about Birmingham than here where I am, Huntsville area. They had kids still at school for the second night last night.

Things are far from back to normal there but here the snow is more or less evaporating now as it melts. At least it goes somewhere. It's there then it's gone and no puddle or even wet concrete left.

Strange but then it's been years since I was in snow much and then when living in Colorado and later Illinois. Was a much different kind of snow there.

Is that just below Montgomery? Or between B'ham and Montgomery? I know it's famous for peaches but my mind is tired and I can't place it right now.

He may have been looking at Accuweather's forecast. My wife mentioned, Monday night, that AW was predicting 1-2 inches of snow and a freeze in Birmingham, but everybody else was saying light dusting and no problems. But yeah, NWS blew it. Otherwise, why are they apologizing for blowing it.

I am so fed up with asshats saying that we can't handle the snow or we can't drive or any other assanine attempt to put us down. This crap was forecasted to be 125 miles south of b'ham and this was at 8:00 am!!! By 11:00 James Spann was telling people to get a hotel room!!! There was even one guy from here calling people goons and getting on his soap box about how smart and well prepared he was. There was a massive pileup because they waited too long to let kids and parents out. People freak out when the thought of not getting your child enters their mind.
Bottom line southerners can and will endure because we help one another. We are the ones pulling neigbors out of demolished homes after tornadoes. We don't wait for fema we do it ourselves. After reading countless crap from some northerners there is no doubt I am where I am supposed to be. I love my state and I love my fellow man. Anyone that says different can kiss it twice.

Keep in mind, up north we have lots of snowplows and salters. Down south they don't because it doesn't snow that much down there. If there wasn't plows or salters we'd be in trouble too.

Exactly. Your area is prepared for what weather conditions you see most. We are prepared for tornadoes. I wouldn't put people in Maine down because they don't have tornado shelters. I guess some folks just like to get their jollies by putting others down. Whatever. Anyone, anywhere at any time can be caught off guard. That's why you must be prepared at your house and in your car. Shoot, I could probably live out of my purse!!
