My aunt is being woo'd by a man she met online... Here's the story. Tell me what you think!
My aunt hasn't had the best choice in men. She's in her 60's and wants to find love. She is kind hearted and trustworthy I just don't want her to get hurt.

She gets on Facebook and some guy from a 50's and older dating website messages her.
They've been talking for 3 weeks.
He claims that he is an engineer contractor? and has been in business almost 20 years.
She tells me he is already wanting to meet her family and is being "mushy" too soon. He tells her he doesn't want anything from her just companionship.
He says he's in Africa on business and when he comes back in a month he would like to plan a meeting.
Also, she has received 3 pictures from him.
I took a look at the pictures and it looks like they were taken off someone else's facebook.

She has been asking him for a picture but says he doesn't have any way of taking one because he doesn't have a phone.
To prove his identity to her, he gave her his "social security number".
He told her to verify it so she can see it's him.
Now, I'm no genius, but I do know that a SSN is very important.
I'd say any business man who has about 20+ of accounts and money would not just fork over a SSN to prove himself. That was a big RED flag to me. Anyone can dummy up a SSN.

I'm not sure. I've shared my opinion with her, but I don't want her to be so blindsided that she just falls for this guy who she's not even sure if his profile picture matches the person he's talking to.

Any advice on how to verify this guy??

Wait until he gets back to the States and ask him for a picture then. Even if he doesn't have a phone, how hard could it be to find someone who does or have a digital camera?

Ask him to take a picture holding a piece of paper with your aunt's name on it.

Until then, tell your aunt not to get too wrapped up with talking to him.

It's usually a red flag is either one is pushing to be "mushy" too soon. Looks like several red flags in your post. Why not take time to get to know each other with emails and phone calls before meeting in real life? Make sure if she does meet him to do it in a public place. Very public, preferably with cameras.

google image do a search for it. Tinyeye? is another pic search engine although I don't think it finds facebook images though but is worth a try.

Sounds super fishy! Big red flag!

Tell your aunt to be extremely careful! My uncle (also in his 50s and widowed, his wife passed away) was caught in a scam similar to this on a dating site. In our case, the woman said she was also in Africa (i guess in case we would verify the country where the IP address was located) anyways, long story short, my uncle send money to her for many reasons and she even promised to come visit him here in Canada. My uncle again sent her money for her flight but she never landed. My uncle was heartbroken, even if we explained to him that the woman did not exist and it was a scam.

Tell your aunt to NEVER, EVER send money, tokens or anything else to this fellow until she knows he's legit.

THIS!
I had suggested the SAME thing.
Hold a paper with her name or a heart or some thing you can't really fake or photoshop to well.

She posed the same question.
If you have all this money, you'd think you'd have at least a decent phone or laptop.

I don't know something does not sit right here.

I'm trying to discourage her from meeting him so soon.
I say that if she DOES.. then she needs to have her family there.
He said he's willing to meet us, but honestly that doesn't put me at ease.

Lol I covered this base too.
According to him, he has a mentally ill child. So, I already was thinking hmm..
Mentally ill children are expensive to take care of so he better not ask her to send her money for medical bills or something because business is slow.

Sorry to hear that about your Uncle :( :hf: Did he ever find love again??

There are numerous reasons why a person goes to a dating website. There can be the need for validation, sometimes we get involved in a relationship and the other person leaves you feeling unattractive. Some are lonely ,some are just out to pray on innocent. I have read up on the scams. You will need to first pray a prayer of protection around her. Next petition God as will I to open her eyes. If you are saved and if prompted ny the Spirit begin to talk to her about her,not him. Ask,and try to understand what she is needing, perhaps there is a place for you there. You are wise to ask and she is blessed to have someone who loves her enough to notice.

Father, Please I ask now that you would open the eyes of your child. That plans laid out to cause her to stumble,be lifted. I ask Father that you send comfort to her and a Spirit of truth. Father please bless her niece and her ability to love. Not in my strength Father but in your son's the over-comer Jesus the Nazarene. The Christ+

On the plus side, he hasn't been talking dirty, asked her for money or anything.
It's just three weeks is WAY to soon to be saying oh yeah I would like to move down there and by a big house.. etc.

Thank you I am a believer hf and He knows this is on my heart. She's been praying too.. for a sign or some kind of reassurance. I've been praying he sends her a GOOD MAN. She's just lonely and told me she only has about 20 years left and she would like some companionship.

I told her MY experience with wanting to meet someone from the internet.
Let's jus say it ended with him stalking me and that was after we had "knew" each other online for almost a year.
God was with me the entire time and protected me.

Greaaaat Prayer hf I believe ! :)

You need help from the watchers.
Saw them on another thread, apparently they have a code word and if you say it,they give you a free and full run down of the person.
You night meet a fake watcher but the real ones have a passcode- I think they are ex-CIA or FBI.
Don't know the password,if you run a search and ask around someone might know.

Dyed-in-the-wool Nigerian scammer.

He will go off on a "business trip", suddenly cut off contact, then recontact her and say he needs a few thousand temporarily as his contract fell thru or something. She is supposed to be all worried and wire it immediately, see...

These guys like to use nicknames for the women (cause they write to tons of women and could mix up names, see?), like "Sunshine".

Usually, their webcams "don't work" so a girl cannot Skype the guy and see him. These guys are all over the internet and I have seen lots of articles on this shit.

Recently, a New York paper had a story on an old retiree who sent all his money to some "young honey" on match.com. She was a "bikini model". He later killed himself. He had been talking to a Nigerian, turns out.

Here: I Googled "Match.com" "Nigerian scammers" and a whole message board support group came up

Um, yeah.... tell her at age 60 to forget about finding love. FFS, young, women can't even find an honest man. What would make her think her saggy old body would be desirable to anyone, let alone a guy 10 years younger.

He's softening her up to empty her bank account or have her take money out against her home if she owns one.

Facebook is dangerous -- NO ONE should be looking for love there.
