I sold a Harley 3 years ago at KBB rate and the state called me a few weeks later to see “what I really sold it for” I went off bad. It was a legit deal, the mint Harley was “pink” ten years old with less then 3k miles on it so I got in to a fight with the state.

I collect cars, not a single one I ever bought was above KBB dealer trade in value.

Picked up a 2003 convertible mustang decked out in mint for $8000, 5 years ago during the credit crunch, that car went up in value 2,500 according to KBB and is worth twice what I paid.

I bought a new Harley off the dealer floor for ¼ below it’s MSRP let alone KBB value.

In a lot of states that tax titles the won't take your word for what you paid, rather use the blue book value because so many people lie about it. If you sell a car for more than you paid for it you are suppose to claim it on your income tax but I don't think anyone does that. Some states tax you every year on the car's worth. I know Virginia does that so I'm not sure why anyone buys a new car there. Soon they want to tax on mileage because new cars get too good gas mileage and electrics don't use any gas. They're not going to do away with the gas tax, just come up with another tax. Electricity you use is taxed and I'm sure they won't give you a break on that if you pay a mileage tax. And you are taxed on tires plus a disposition tax of old tires plus in some states you pay sales tax on the tires.

We are taxed to death yet most people are only aware of sales and income tax. We pay the tax imposed on retailers, wholesalers, transportation, manufacturers and others on everything we buy.
