Is A Mercuria Buyout Of JP Morgan Enough To Bury Their Sins?
Factbox: JPMorgan's physical commodity trading

Wed, Feb 5, 2014, 2:32pm EST - US Markets close in 1 hr and 28 mins

Swiss trader Mercuria has become the front-runner to buy the physical commodities unit of JPMorgan Chase & Co , one of the most powerful oil and metals desks on Wall Street, two sources told Reuters.

The terms are yet to be agreed and the details of what assets would be included are not known, but a deal would catapult Mercuria into the top tier of trading houses with Glencore Xstrata , Vitol and Trafigura .

JPMorgan's multi-billion dollar push to become Wall Street's biggest commodities trader began in 2008 with the purchase of Bear Stearns and peaked with the $1.6 billion deal to buy RBS Sempra's global oil and metals business in 2010.

I've got some homework to do, but wasn't there, in the least, an urban legend that had JP Morgan completely screwing customers on calls for physical bullion? If JP Morgan truly couldn't cover the calls, wouldn't a buyout help to insulate them further?

"Trading is at the heart of Mercuria's business. Our teams are highly experienced, global, multi-commodity and asset-backed."

Exactly how 'global' are these people? NWO super-sized?
Exactly what are their assets backing such a ridiculously-large purchase?

I can't help but to infer from this and headlines within the past year or so that there is a shift of some sort taking place in the energy sector I just can't nail down.

Apparently, Mercuria was chosen by JP Morgan to have the honor of making an offer:

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. has selected Swiss trading house Mercuria Energy Group Ltd. to enter into exclusive negotiations for the sale of its physical commodity assets, with an agreement possible by the end of the month, according to a person familiar with the matter.

A deal would launch Geneva-based Mercuria, which today mainly trades oil and other energy products, into the top tier of firms that move industrial commodities around the world. The deal would also mark the exit of one of Wall Street's biggest participants in physical commodity markets.

"Privately held Mercuria was founded 10 years ago by alumni of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and has hired several senior former bank traders from Barclays Plc. and elsewhere. In a 2012 credit facility filing, the firm reported $98 billion in revenue, under a third of the $303 billion Vitol reported in revenue that year."

"Other private-equity firms took a look as well, including KKR & Co. and Carlyle Group LP, according to people familiar with the matter."
