the irony of racial slurs
there is something i've always been bothered by regarding the attitude towards people who use racial slurs.

racism is blind discrimination based on race. Using a racial slur may be rude, it may be tasteless, it may be offensive, but it doesn't mean a person is racist. it seems our society has adopted this attitude that it's okay to use a slur if you are a member of the race being slurred, but if someone outside that race says it, they are treated with scorn and contempt. I think context and setting plays majorly into this situation, but generally, that's the consensus.

The great irony, the aspect that is a giant blockage on the road of progress, is this notion that we make an exception for people to use them if they appear to be a member of the race in question. That is discrimination based on race! It is racist!

I'm told not to say certain words because they are rude and offensive, and I can accept that. But I do not accept that the people who are labeled a racist for saying a word that they probably hear on a regular basis, are labeled so not because of the word they used, but because of their race at the time they used it!

Here in America, the children today are not born with a blind racial bias. Any stereotypes they develop are learned from experience and do not imply any hatred, it's just how the mind works to categorize the world into easier to understand nuggets. It is very confusing to them that only certain people can use certain words. When they are told that the reason one guy can say it and the other can't is because of their race, that is instilling the very character of racism that society is trying to leave behind by abandoning these words!

This double standard is the ultimate irony.
