THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND SLEET, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST TUESDAY.

LOCATIONS, PORTIONS OF NORTH GEORGIA, MAINLY ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM CARROLLTON TO ATLANTA TO WASHINGTON.

HAZARD TYPES, RAIN MIXED WITH SNOW AND SLEET ON TUESDAY, WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN ON WEDNESDAY.

ACCUMULATIONS, UP TO 1 INCH OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED DURING THE ADVISORY PERIOD ON TUESDAY. DURING THE WATCH PERIOD TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING, UP TO AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 INCHES OF SNOW WITH A TENTH TO A QUARTER INCH OF ICE.

TIMING, RAIN MONDAY NIGHT WILL MIX WITH AND POSSIBLY CHANGE OVER TO SNOW OR A SNOW SLEET MIX BY SUNRISE TUESDAY MORNING. AS TEMPERATURES WARM THROUGH THE DAY, PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY CHANGE BACK OVER TO RAIN BEFORE TRANSITIONING AGAIN BACK TO A MIX OF RAIN SLEET AND SNOW TUESDAY EVENING. BY WEDNESDAY MORNING, EXPECT A MIX OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN, FINALLY TRANSITIONING BACK TO SNOW BY THURSDAY MORNING.

IMPACTS, SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE ON ROADS MAKING FOR HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS EARLY TUESDAY. ON WEDNESDAY, ICE WILL BEGIN TO ACCUMULATE ON ROADS MAKING FOR HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE DRIVING CONDITIONS. ICE THAT ACCUMULATES ON TREES AND POWERLINES COULD BRING DOWN LARGE TREE LIMBS AND CAUSE POWER OUTAGES.

WINDS, NORTHEAST 5 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

TEMPERATURES, IN THE UPPER 30S TUESDAY WITH LOWER TO MID 30S ON WEDNESDAY.

I know that a lot of folks laugh at Atlanta and snow, but you have to understand, we don't have the equipment in place to deal with these types of situations. These situations are infrequent enough that they don't feel like the expenditure is justified.

This has the potential to be worse than part 1, as it is going to be, at least partially, an ice storm. I have the capability to work from home, so I will be good.

Well, my work has closed facilities for today, so I am working from home...the NWS is calling for a snow/ice event of "historical proportions" for Atlanta, starting later today and going at least through Thursday morning. I have all my preps in order (extra food, batteries, fuel, water, alternative means of cooking, lighting, etc.)so I am gonna just sit back and enjoy watching all the slappies out there have a collective freak-out.

The Snow/ice doom inches closer...we have accumulating snow/sleet on the back deck...

I"m in the north georgia mountains, we already have 2 inches on the ground and it's just getting started............lol.

What situation???? It's an inch of snow!!

Yep! Hubby and I went out and got everything we need for atleast a week, and plenty of firewood too.

We will be snowed in for about a week because we live on top of a small mountain here in the Appalachians, no guard rails on our road and they don't plow it.........lol.

It's beautiful out the window right now, all the snow on the trees.

I think we're prepared, and will pull the cars in the fence tonight because I'm sure our neighborhood is not one that will receive the benefits of road prep and these idiots drive like crap in dry conditions.

May have to sit on the front porch with some coffee and watch the shenanigans once it gets started, lol.

Don't let them get to you. They don't understand your hilly, curvy terrain with no shoulders on most roads and they haven't experienced a two inch glaze of solid ice. I visited and hated driving around there in good weather, talk about your hair pin turns! They can kiss your butt. I've lived all over the place in this country, Maine, Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts and now Florida. Even with all that up north snow saturated clipper prone freeze your face with frostbite in 2 minutes warning stuff i've lived through - nothing prepared me for an ice storm with a 2 inch glaze. Most people just don't know what the hell they are talking about but get on a bitch with smug attitudes about what you can't handle. Screw them. And as for you and yours - stay safe.

This should end for you all. I understand if you are not use to those types of conditions, it makes it bad for for you. I lived in the NW. For years, even there when we had excessive snow it was hard for the system to keep up.

Here in AZ they just forecast we are going to be in the 80's & possibly 90 this week end, who knows what weather is comming next. 90 here is no big deal, but in Febuary?

Yes, I could care less about the snow but the last time we had ice like this we were without power for a week. Ugh.

Final preparations began all over the Deep South Tuesday morning as Winter Storm Pax, the 16th named winter storm of the 2013-14 season, began its first wave of snow and ice in several states.

“Confidence is increasing in an event of historical proportions,” the National Weather Service said early Tuesday. “Expect significant – crippling – ice totals from Atlanta eastward along the I-20 corridor.”

Ice storms are horrible no matter where you live.
I live in Fairbanks Alaska and we have all the 'equipment' of course.
And most people drive all wheel drive vehicles with good winter tires.

Even so, a couple of weeks ago the town (including the airport) was completely shut down due to ice. The difference is, here it doesn't melt and we are stuck
with really slick road conditions for months afterwards.

Will the Blacks compound the chaos?

The *big* test will be *TODAY*...when everyone is scrambling around, buying every piece of bread, milk, eggs, sled, heaters, kitty litter, books, in anticipation of being stranded in their homes for the better part of a *WEEK*.

We just got some snow in the north metro but it ended. The roads look completly fine, because it's still above freezing.

However, the big daddy comes tonight and it's not gonna be snow, but Ice for 1 straight day probably. Prepare for power outage!

Most of what fell this morning has melted to the west of Charlotte.
Some still in the wooded areas, but open areas are clear.

Sounds like the fun starts tonight when temps hang around freezing.

haha Atalanta is the laughing stock of the nation right now. People are STMFH at you guys emptying out the grcoery store for an inch of snow and basically acting a fool.

Why don't you come down here boy and make a fool of yourself like all the other newbie northerners?
