In the winter time, Northern Europeans had to learn to ski in order to hunt. Naturally this skill became so revered that hunters started to compete with each other to see who's best. This skill was also incorporated into military training as a great to defend your territory from invasion.

See, the point is to combine beating the shit out of your body/cardio system and then having to perform a task that takes stillness and slow breathing.

They used to perform the cardio workout on skis then give them a baby to circumcise but the public began to frown on it, hence the shooting skill now.

Being accurate with a pounding pulse is very hard to do. Cross country skiing is very physically demanding. So race up your pulse and then see if you can nail a few bull's eyes and then on to the next one. Sounds like war games to me, I'm surprised the touchy feelies haven't cried to have it banned.
