Are Americans Stupid? 1 in 4 doesn't know the earth revolves around the sun
This could explain why we have a political class that can get away with murder and still win re-election time after time.

Re: Are Americans Stupid? 1 in 4 doesn't know the earth revolves around the sun
This brings up an interesting point. Most people would look at the statistic cited in the OP, roll there eyes, and think " how stupid are those people (the 25%)" while secretly praising themselves as "smart' for "knowing" the truth. But how many people have actually taken the time to scientifically verify the seemingly obvious and simple truth, that the earth orbits the sun, not the other way around. How many people would have the knowledge and equipment to be able to do this?

It's easy for most people to mock proponents of scientific theory, and yet very few truly understand the science behind global warming or evolution, for example. However, that doesn't stop most people from blindly accepting whatever theories science puts in front of them.

The poll does not indicate that 25% of Americans have examined the evidence and drawn a different conclusion than the overwhelming majority of astronomers and astrophysicists that have studied the question. The 25% don't know that it's the prevailing view of the solar system, and thus it is a question they have simply not pondered. This is interesting not because there are competing theories, but because it shows a remarkable lack of interest in how things work. No matter how preoccupied we may get with all of life's distractions, the fact the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening should at least raise some basic questions.

I could ask hundreds of people and not one of them would answer this way. But, lets fix the thread title and make it even more intriguing:

Are Scientists Stupid? 9,999 in 10,000 don't know that neutrons repel each other, and that the Sun is a magnetic, iron-core, plasma diffusing pulsar remnant of a supernova

Fifteen other papers linked in the following:

Thread: Where does the big bang suggest the universe.... (Page 3)

Lol, show me the papers.
 Quoting: Dionysian Fullaflattus

Sure, here are a few to check out. But first, the 5-page layman's paper.

THE SUN IS A MAGNETIC PLASMA DIFFUSER
THAT SORTS ATOMS AND ELEMENTS BY WEIGHT

I. THE SUN IS A GIANT PLASMA "DIFFUSER"

II. SOLAR MAGNETIC FIELDS ACCELERATE PROTONS (HYDROGEN
IONS) UPWARD

III. FRESH, RADIOACTIVE SUPERNOVA DEBRIS FORMED METEORITES,
PLANETS, AND THE SUN

IV. THE SUN IS A "CLOTHED NEUTRON STAR"

[link to arxiv.org]

Here's a kicker:

"... 99% of the material in ordinary meteorites is made of these same elements...the likelihood of this spectacular agreement being a meaningless coincidence is less than one in 50,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000."

Edit: That would be one in 50 nonillion. Douglas Adams would be proud.
Names of large numbers:

 Quoting: AkashicRecord

The non-layman version of the above:

The Sun is a plasma diffuser that sorts atoms by mass

ABSTRACT:
The Sun is a magnetic plasma diffuser that selectively moves light elements like H and He and the lighter isotopes of each element to its surface. The Sun formed on the collapsed core of a supernova. It consists mostly of iron, oxygen, nickel, silicon and sulfur made near the SN core, like the rocky planets and ordinary meteorites. H ions, generated by emission and decay of neutrons at the core, are accelerated upward by deep magnetic fields, thus acting as a carrier gas that maintains mass separation in the Sun. Neutron emission from the central neutron star triggers a series of reactions that generate solar luminosity, solar neutrinos, solar mass-fractionation, and an outpouring of the neutron decay product, H, in the solar wind. Mass fractionation appears to have operated in the parent star as well, and likely occurs in other stars.

Thread: Corruption of Science: Destruction of the U.S. Constitution

Who Cares If Neutrons Repel and Stars Make Hydrogen?

Government by the people depends on public access to reliable information. The integrity of our government thus depends on the integrity of government science.

For the past sixty-eight years the scientific community has lied to Congress about the energy (E) stored as mass (m) in cores of atoms, planets, stars and galaxies. Why? Fear and a deep sense of guilt and remorse for having released that energy to vaporize Hiroshima and Nagasaki and kill hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians on August 6 and 9, 1945 ..

The Structure of the Solar Core

ABSTRACT:
Data from the Galileo mission to Jupiter and the Apollo mission to the Moon show isotopically distinct types of xenon in Jupiter and in the Sun and evidence of a mass separation process that selectively moves lighter elements and the lighter isotopes of each element to the solar surface. Understanding the source of solar luminosity, solar neutrinos, and mono-isotopic H-1 pouring from the solar surface depends on measurements of anti-neutrinos coming from neutron decay in the Sun and on the development of a better theoretical basis for the empirical evidence of a.) Repulsive interactions between like nucleons; b.) Clustering of nucleons; and c.) Neutron penetration of the gravitational barrier surrounding a neutron star.

So you find this surprising?

I don't.

I deal with idiocy every day at work. It amazing to me how stupid people are nowadays.

Go to any fast food restaurant and ask for a "couple" of cokes. The response will be "How many is a couple?".

Geeeezzz!!!
