That being said there is an opportunity for some real discussion on this topic. As a taxpayer nothing turns my stomach more that someone buying a steak on WIC when I have to eat hamburger.

What I am curious about is whether this speaks to the validity of organic products. I have always had my doubts as to whether they truly are organic or if they are just given a different sticker and marked up 75% while the corporations laugh all the way to the bank.

Since the EBT money just gets recycled back to the government in the end anyway, it would seem to me they would embrace the opportunity to give you less with your money.

OP...if your primary concern truly was feeding your family you wouldn't give a damn if it was organic or not. You would be grateful to have anything that filled your stomach three times a day and as a taxpayer I would be grateful my money went to helping a family truly in need. We are growing our own chickens for eggs and meat, grew our own pigs and traded one for grass fed organic side of beef. I am doing what I can to steer clear of their BS, make sure you grow a garden at least. I remember being broke with a by and it's doable, just harder:). Good luck and check your Craigslist, there are usually people selling surplus eggs for the same price of the mass produced ones at the store. Also most towns allow backyard chickens and they usually lay an egg nearly every day.

Unfortunately we no longer live in a world where we can trust the integrity of our food sources unless we own a farm and an orchard. That is what is truly sad. The best advice I can give is to enjoy the extended time off to enjoy your little one and look forward to going back to work. You will be ready I assure you. That is the best gift your employer could have given you. As for WIC...resist the urge to try to "get back what you paid in" unless your other resources have been depleted. Slavery never died...they are trying to enslave each one of us with these programs. For the sake of your child don't let them take you prisoner.
