"Ukraine, first known as Kievan Rus" sound like "Mexico, first known as Mayan Empire". There was no such word as Ukraine or Ukrainian national identity at the times of Kievan Rus, and the claims of a direct succession are laughable. Ruthenia is a term that was used by western Europeans to refer to Eastern Slavs, and was later used for the Eastern Slavic population of the Austrian empire, it was never used by any Slavs to identify themselves, and it is very ambiguous.

By that time, the seat of the Metropolitan of Kiev had been moved to Vladimir-on-Kliazma, Russia, and later to Moscow for some two centuries, and it was only after he signed the treaty that was disapproved by the Moscovian Grand Duke that he had to flee from Russia to the polish-occupied Kiev.

The elevation of Ruthenia to co-equality in a Polish-Lithuanian-Ruthenian Commonwealth in 1658 never happened, and all the time only the Polish and the Lithuanians were recognized as first class citizens of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Russians of Poland (ancestors of modern Ukrainians and Belorussians), called here by their German name "Ruthenians", have been always been second-class citizens there and never had full rights; by 1658 Poland was in a desperate situation, and the elevation of the "Ruthenians" was one of the extreme measure considered, along with a proposed coronation of the Russian Tzar as a King of Poland, but none of the two happened.

Recognition of the Ukrainian independence in 1918 was one of the conditions of the Russian capitulation to Germany, and the newly created country was immediately occupied by Germany. After Germany surrendered to the Western powers later the same year, the artificial Ukrainian state collapsed very quickly.

The "alliance" between Poland and Ukraine happened after the Ukrainians attempted to declare an independent state in the Western Ukraine following the collapse of the Austrian empire, but were quickly crashed by the Poles who also declared independence and claimed the same territory. The surviving West Ukrainian army retreated to the East to help the remaining Ukrainian separatists who were desperate to hold at least some land, using the fact that most of the territory of the Ukraine was at that time a battlefield between the Red and the White Russian armies, and both were too busy to mess with the separatists. As soon as the Bolsheviks won the civil war, they quickly smashed the remaining separatists, and they had nothing to do but to run back to Poland and beg them for help, for which they agreed to give up their claims for the Western Ukraine and give it up to the Poles. Since the Poles didn't manage to grab more land from Russia, the "alliance" naturally failed.

The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist republic was indeed one of the founding members of the UN, but it had nothing to do with the WW1 separatists and WW2 collaborationists who formed a government in exile and who are now glorified by the regime in Kiev.

The Budapest memorandum was needed because the newly formed Ukrainian state grabbed a part of the Russian nuclear arsenal that was stationed on its territory and didn't want to give it back, while it was obvious for everybody that such a miserable state lacking adequate technology was incapable of safely operating nuclear arms and ensure non-proliferation, so the entire world had to push on them to curb their inadequate ambitions and force them to give the nukes back.

Bulgaria's central bank governor says ready to resign

Bulgaria's central bank governor Ivan Iskrov said on Tuesday that he was ready to tender his resignation amid a raging controversy over the fate of the country's fourth-largest bank.
"If parliament reaches consensus to vote on appointing a new BNB governor before it breaks up on August 6, I am ready to table my resignation immediately," Iskrov said in a letter to lawmakers.

Let's face it, Putin is alpha. So in his mind, if he's thinking NATO and the US are trying to frame him for MH17 he would also think he needs to be the one to secure the area to make it so the "truth" comes out.

Whoa, that's actually brilliant. I mean it's not good news, but strategically it's brilliant. MH17 was downed, but, it doesn't matter. You pin it on Putin and actually do your best to make it look like a frame job, even though it may not be, and Putin, to save face, is going to have to make a move to protect his reputation, if to no one else to himself. Putin believes a side of the story and he's such an alpha he won't be able to allow himself to be "framed" so he could very well move in to "Secure" the crash site to protect his reputation. Again this is in his POV. The West could simply be faking the bumbling of the investigation to make Putin think they're trying to frame him. Wow.

Europe is bankrupt and is collapsing right now, so Russia can step in and overtake it without shooting a bullet, just like in Crimea!
