When someone offers me a drink, I usually say "No thanks. I've had enough."

Ha! I know too many alcohol counselors who are alcoholics themselves to recommend that.

"Tell me Jack, do you have a problem with alcohol?"

"Oh, no. I just quit when I want to, then after a couple of weeks have a couple after work, ya know.

"Does that work for you?"

"Sure. No problem. A couple of cold beers after work don't hurt anybody"

"OK. Here's your prescription, see you in a month".

Of course you did say intelligent... That may be the problem right there.

Around here the counseling centers are approaching alcoholism as a Prozac deficiency.

My mom met someone who did LSD in the past and suffered a lifetime of nightmarish flashbacks. He could barely hold a job as a cab driver.

Anything that alters your brain chemistry to make you drunk or high is killing brain cells to do so. Another study in the news on this just last week.

Prayers for anyone suffering addiction. Please get help and know you are loved.

No more than you can get upstairs because somebody shows you a staircase. Right? LOL

A lot of people get their loved ones into rehab, and when they come out, the family expects them to be "fixed".

Any kind of lasting recovery requires a massive change of values, personality and attitude, sufficient to maintain recovery from the obsession.

The problem is, if people knew how to do that, they woulda done it already when the booze had knocked them to the floor and they were ready to quit.

Without that, it is the same person sans the booze and that is not a pretty sight. It's no wonder people drink again when they get out.

People have a dilemma when they get ready to quit, they lack the power to do it. And they lack the knowledge of what to do. That explains why some people desperately try one thing after another, drinking only beer, drinking only after a meal, downing a glass of milk before they drink, and on and on.

That is where the Step program comes in, but as has been said, not everybody goes that route.

I had an uncle who quit drinking and was a classic dry drunk for the next 20 years because he was just the same old him with nothing to mellow it out. I really felt sorry for him. But I didn't like him very much.

I don't drink either.

In that situation, I say "No, thanks, it makes me throw up a lot."

They never press the issue.

first of all there was 2 types blotter and window pane,didnt matter how many blotter you took it didnt equal one of the window pane,i have only come across it 2x and that was plenty,everyone should try it atleast once because you gotta hold on to your ass or kiss it goodbye,you gotta lock a good peice of your mind in a box and hold on tight to reality or you will go crazy and it doesnt stop for 12-13 hrs,everyones trip is differenet some loose it others can hold on good luck i gave that shit up at my age i just dont see any benefits oh to be young again

Some alcoholics are just miserable, with or without alcohol, just like a lot of non addicted people you know. I don't fully buy the dry drunk argument. Yes you need to look within, the same thing that got you to stop, just build from there. Recognize that the bad spells do go away just as they are sure to arrive now and then.

Conspiracy is not a theory, remember that, but yes your mind could be opened somewhat by use of such chemicals.

i only say everyone should try it so they would atleast have an idea if the govt tried using it on the population like i believe they already are thats why they tested it so much

If you go in for counseling, you will lose your 2nd amendment rights. It's happening on the east coast already. Vets returning from the sand box are getting VA counseling, finding their guns confiscated. My ex wants my son to go to counseling, because she believes his delicate little psyci was damaged over there. I told him about the confiscations, and he told her to get counseling herself. She needs it, she is an overbearing nit-picky bitch!

I think I'm going to rehab.

yes one time i took 13 hits, drove in a severe snowstorm,thought i was han solo cruising in the millenium falcon at hyper sppeed to the show to see the most amzing acid movie ever dune,what a trip

LOL, well I'm the counselor, but not that kind...I'm a financial counselor, but all things in life have an impact on a person's finances, so I have to deal with it all.

its not so much the tollerance its being aware that its the drug doing it and the trip isnt real ,sometimes it gets blurred on acid

Just do it my friend, sick and tired of being sick and tired is no way to live, you emptiness can be filled. It really can, it can be filled with the right things, just go. Be one of us, smile again like a kid.

councelling only provides a revolving door for failure,and a full time job for a councellor ,just keep drinking till you really want to quit deep down you know the truth no matter were you go your still you and until you understand thats its you who keeps you from drinking not rehab you cant win because no matter how long you stay they put you back out in the cruel world again

Haven't tried that in my sobriety. Heh. There's an idea though. No drink in a very, very long time. Don't miss it one bit. It's wonderful! I can just be plain crazy w/o alcohol.

I'm really amazed by some of the responses in regard to LSD on this thread.

I'm not going to read anyone the riot act or condone the use of LSD to anyone but I will tell you that in the right hands with the right people LSD can help people center themselves better than antidepressants, alcohol, shock therapy and more.

However, if you are weak minded and easily lead about by stupidity then you are the LAST person who should take LSD.

It still makes me wonder how much longer we are going to have to live with this "Reefer Madness" mentality about drugs in general while it's okay to plow yourself with booze and kill your internal organs (and possibly someone else) just because it's legal.

LSD is nothing to be playing with, that's for sure.

But if it could stand the remotest chance of helping someone with some sort of mental issue or addiction, then I say go for it.

And no, LSD is NOT addictive.
