Alec Baldwin, I've always liked you - in spite of your politics
And for awhile now, I have suspected that you are no longer a true "liberal progressive". In fact now that I have read your monologue, I dare say, you have some seriously libertarian leanings.

Welcome to the club, my friend. Everyone says things they regret in the heat of anger... I don't even have to forgive you for that -- in fact I applaud it, because it reassures me that you are a real person and not a Hollywood Robot.

[link to www.vulture.com]

While it is regrettable that your voice mail message to your daughter was made public, the fact that you were so angered by her attitudes was reassuring to me-- too many people give their kids the moon these days, and these same kids grow up entitled and disrespectful. This is one of the things that is wrong with this country from a generational, foundational point of view.

(less than 50%)

And in your monologue (link above) I liked what you had to say here:

Yes, I’m a human being. I always had big ambitions. I had dreams of running for office at some point in the next five years. In the pyramid of decision-making in New York City politics, rich people come first, unions second, and rank-and-file New Yorkers come dead last. I wanted to change that. I wanted to find a way to lower the cost of the city government and thus reduce New York’s shameful tax burden. I would have decentralized the schools. My father was a public-school teacher. He always told me that although you could encourage a child to work hard, you could only go so far; that half the goal had to be achieved at home.
 Quoting: Alec Baldwin

And I like what you said here:

Everything I hated about L.A. I’m beginning to crave. L.A. is a place where you live behind a gate, you get in a car, your interaction with the public is minimal. I used to hate that. But New York has changed. Manhattan is like Beverly Hills. And the soul of New York has moved to Brooklyn, where everything new and exciting seems to be. I have to accept that. I want my newest child to have as normal and decent a life as I can provide.
 Quoting: Alec Baldwin

And I like what you said here:

We allowed people privacy, we left them alone. And now we don’t leave each other alone. Now we live in a digital arena, like some Roman Colosseum, with our thumbs up or thumbs down.
 Quoting: Alec Baldwin

And I like what you said here:

I think America’s more fucked up now than it’s ever been. People are angry that in the game of musical chairs that is the U.S. economy, there are less seats at the table when the music stops. And at every recession, the music is stopping.
 Quoting: Alec Baldwin

And I know everyone will like what you said here:

Even the U.S., which is so preposterously judgmental now. The heart, the arteries of the country are now clogged with hate. The fuel of American political life is hatred. Who would ever dream that Obama would deserve to be treated the way he has been?
 Quoting: Alec Baldwin

and here:

And all for the electoral nullification that seems like a cancer on the American system.
 Quoting: Alec Baldwin

and here:

It’s Hate Incorporated. But the liberals have taken the bait and run in the same direction—and it’s just as corrosive.

Admit it Mr. Baldwin, your politics have been changing for awhile.

I would like to pose a theory that at least one of the reasons you have a target painted on your back now is because you have begun to fall out of lock-step with the Hollywood Propagandist machine...

Eyes open, Mr. Baldwin. Now that you are waking up and seeing things anew, you will find its hard to go back to the way things were before.

I have always liked him for some reason... maybe it was because he seemed so passionate. In an arena of robots doing as their told. Not saying I approve of some of his behavior but he is authentic and that seems to be rare these days, particularly with people in the public eye.

I agree.

I mean who hasn't said hateful things in the heat of the moment? When we are so fired up we tend to reach for the most biting epithet we can find. If it's racist or sexist or elitest -- doesn't really matter does it? It's human.

It's not something we should admire but it is something we can all (and I mean all of us) can relate to.

Thanks, mine too. I thought maybe it was about time we all took a fresh look at him. If the media makes up news stories and sensationalizes a particular (government sponsored point of view) it only makes sense that they sensationalize other (points of view) too.

He reminds me of my brother -- who is quite a bit younger, but they resemble each other a tiny bit...maybe that's why I have always liked him? Or maybe it's because I love the movie 'The Hunt for Red October'.

As a point of order, he is an actor.

Is this not just another Act in The Grand Play?

Not taking away from Harrison Ford, but Red October was the best Clancy-book-to-film imho...

Alec Baldwin is right. America is pretty, no, VERY fucked up. I fear for my children's future and living here in Massachusetts is an embarrassment to say the least. Liberal snooty pigs everywhere.

Agree with Tandym.
Have always liked Alec Baldwin.
Hope he can take a break from the
craziness of this degrading society and enjoy his family.

I see him being a force (political ?) in the future.

Point of order - anyone who wants to decrease the size of government and relieve a ginormous tax burden from its citizens is not a socialist.

I think he's pretty funny, and has made me laugh. I really do try to stay out of their business and just enjoy the talent. Same with Tom Cruise. I think he's a great actor, in spite of the bad press.

If he continues to be this obnoxious while out in public, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up getting arrested (or worse).

He strikes me as a man with very serious anger issues, and as someone who is a threat to public safety.

Yep...I think he is a loose cannon. I could easily see this guy killing someone. I quit watching anything with him when he started doing this crap in public, then the phone calls to his ex and his kid. Can you imagine what this guy is like in private. He repulses me.

there's this pic of him where I think he's about to punch the cameraman. anyway, he looks like a total nutter--one eye is bigger than the other, his face twisted into a grimace of pure, crazy hatred...

Yes, I suspect he is full of very negative energy and not pleasant to be around for the majority of the time.

He appears to be in need of serious help, both for his sake, and for those that are around him.

Sad to see.
