What are some of the most overrated books you've read? Save me from reading them...please

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway--a book about whiny, spoiled rich people.

Dreams of My Father, by Barack Obama, sucked lots of ass.

As much as I like "the classics", I absolutely cannot stand anything written by Dickens.

I would like to concentrate on literature, both old and new. They are well-written and often suggested reading material.

I would like to read various genres so that I can see what I like. I searched around the internet for 'recommend a good book' searches. However, I'm finding a lot of these highly suggested books are not living up to the hype.

Catcher in the Rye is on so many suggested book lists. I found the book a waste of time. I thought it was going to be amazing, but it was average at best. I don't get why so many liked it so much.

So, that's what I'm trying to avoid. Thus my thread

Phillip k Dick is an interesting author.
Most books are short so it isn't too painful if you don't enjoy it.
Most people would recommend his sci-fi but I enjoy some of his more mundane novels.

Yes, right! When I bought the book, the salesperson was in her early twenties. She said she read the book in grade 9 and read it again a few months again. She said it was completely different for her the second time.
